Mopar Radiator - 55037653AB in a 2006 4.0?

Tried search ….couldn’t find the answer.

55037653AB has hose barb fittings on the radiator for automatic transmission cooler lines (97-04)
55037653AC has quick disconnect fittings for automatic transmission cooler lines (05-06)

Every old post I see has people finding and modifying an “AC” model for use in a pre-2005 by adding Hayden 397. I need to go the other way for a 2006 —- “AC” nowhere to be found but did find an “AB”. I want to modify the AB (97-04) from barb style to quick disconnect fitting (05-06).

I’m told the Dorman 800-605 often referenced will not work with an OEM mopar radiator. Is my only option to attempt removing quick disconnect fitting from the old radiator or can new quick disconnect fittings be sourced that can be easily installed without modification?

Stated more clearly —- can these fitting from an AC model be screwed into a new AB model?

I'll be honest, I thought they were molded into the plastic. Had no idea they came out.

But logically speaking if AB can use AC, AC should be able to use AB.

I’m hoping to find someone that has successfully swapped these fittings on a Mopar radiator.

Easy to make the AC act like an AB by adding the Hayden adapter to the factory quick connect fitting. Can see aftermarket examples working like AC with a Dorman screw in quick connect fitting. I’ve been told the same Dorman quick connect fitting will not go into the Mopar radiator.

Unclear if I can reuse mopar fitting from and old AC into a new AB. (Would also be very expensive experiment if it doesn’t work…)

Do appreciate the response and agree it would be logical this should work — which is probably why it won’t work at the end of the day.

Thanks for the kind words, but I know jack about jill when it comes to the fittings. And the one time I asked about the fittings I got scolded like a 4 year old for taking the fittings to home depot to match size instead of making an appointment with pipefitters local 151.

I've also never been around an 05-06, I didn't realize they had different fittings. So yeah, I'm basically useless here.

I recently bought a AB radiator from World to replace my AC radiator in my 06. I used the old fittings from the AC radiator and not leaks so far. Or you can get some trans cooler rubber line and pex connector clamps to use the AB connectors on the radiator. Mine didn't leak so I never got around to buying the line and clamps, I already had the clamping tool from some plumbing work.

I was very curious if the fitting threads from the old AC would match the new AB....sounds like yes they will. I'd prefer to swap the fittings and leave the lines alone. Did your fittings screw out easily on both the AC and AB?

Yes they came out ok once I broke them loose. The fittings and seals are different but will work if its all clean and orings are good
