EAG flat fenders: any good?

does anyone know if these are any good? I've really been looking at the metalcloak overline fenders, but they are EXPENSIVE. I know the quality may not be on the same level but at the same time, I don't necessarily need fenders that can take a beating.... just seeing if anyone has seen them or, even better, used them

I will say that on my old TJ, I had the EAG front bumper and had no issues with it. The powder coat on their stuff doesn't seem as durable as it would on a more expensive brand, but I suppose that's to be expected for the price point. It seemed more like a good spray paint to me than a powder coat. I think it was indeed powder coat, just a cheap one. Again, at that price point plus free shipping, you can't really complain.

Yes, and that's the only thing I would go into it worried about. Worse comes to worse, you either bed line them or have someone powder coat them (which isn't that expensive, my skid plate was only $75 and that thing is huge). But other than that, I had good luck with their bumper. No fitment issues with it either.

Which bumper did u have? I was looking at their stubby and it actually looks nice and has a winch plate. I just can't find the motivation to spend $600+ on a bumper when I know I'm on the road more than off (sadly ) if I knew my stuff was going to take a beating and needed to be as durable as possible, I wouldn't have a problem with it. that's just not where I'm at right now tho. especially if it's just the paint that isn't very good quality lol

I still don't get how they can sell it for $219 with free shipping and make much of a profit. The shipping on that thing alone has to be a killer (it's big!). It's a nice bumper though and I never had any issues with it. If I hadn't found my Mopar Rock Crawler bumpers, that's the one I'd be running on my current TJ too!

I will say metal cloak did finally send a replacement set but I'm not going to put them on because I don't want to fool with having to get them painted and switched out.

one of the biggest reasons I've been looking at the metalcloak fenders is bc it's a clean removal of the old ones and you don't have to cut them to mount the new ones on. maybe I'm timid bc I'm a newbie but I feel like it would be nice to have the old fenders in case I wanted to sell or switch anything out. maybe I'll steer clear of metalcloak tho, I don't want to spend all that money for some that don't entirely live up to the price and hype

I agree. For the price, it’s pretty much impossible to beat.

dang those are expensive too. thanks for the suggestion anyway. I'd love to have either those or MC but sadly I just can't justify the need to spend the extra $350 or so... I looked up oem-style fenders and they are around $100 a piece so if I put those eag ones on and wanted to take them off for whatever reason later (which I don't see happening) then I would still be saving money buying replacement fenders...... and that's to say I can't pick up a pair from Craigslist for $100 total

It doesn't look like you have to cut the fender for that style like for the tube style.

oh you don't? I couldn't find the install video so I only saw the tube one. do you have a link or instructions? that would be even better

I cannot be sure...I compaired the pics for the tube style and these. In the reviews of the tube style (one of the pics) it is clear (at least it appears to be) that the fender is cut to for it to mount. That and the jeep with the tubes does not have the hood latch installed.

Thus is all conjecture though.

I've looked at these a few times,you deff have to cut em cause that's the stock inner fender and if you look close you can see a dewalt cordless drill battery sitting on the coil spring LOL

Don't be afraid to cut - I am hardly what I consider highly skilled at this sort of thing and I got it done with a $30 body say from Harbor Freight.

You have a good deal of wiggle room with your cuts - it is not like you need to be precise to the inch, only need to be sure you are leaving enough of the inner OEM fender for the replacement to sit on top of and bolt to.

the actual cutting part isn't necessarily the part that scares me, I really would just rather do a direct replacement than have to cut any part of the body.

did you go with these fenders? or just something similar? if u have any before/afters I'd love to see

also I'm wondering if I could buy an after market inner fender kit and just take out the stock fenders all together. some companies say that's fine and some say that the flat fenders needs the stock one for support. I'll have to email eag directly but it's a possibility
