Shock boots

I got my new Rancho RS5000X shocks and will install this weekend.
Can I get rid of the plastic rear shock boots? Why are they plastic anyway? I won't be using any boots. Thanks

No need for shock boots. They're really just for show but their problem is they trap stuff inside that can cause the shock to go bad more quickly. Salt, moisture, fine sand/dirt that can damage the seal, etc.
