The good news thread

Owen's hockey team won again last night, 3-1, with Owen scoring the first goal.
They were playing a team from Kenosha, WI, that they lost to last Friday, 3-2. I grew up in western Kenosha County, aka Westosha, so I know they take their hockey seriously. Seriously enough that in the last minute of Fridays game, the Kenosha team started throwing hands. Happened again last night, tho, the refs weren't having it and ejected three of the Kenosha kids with 45 seconds left in the game. I didn't see Fridays' game, either, but Mrs.Cheesy said the same kids on the Kenosha team that started the ruckus on Friday were the same ones booted out last night.

I went skating last night without Owen as it was a school night. It's a hell of a lot less crowded, too, than on a Friday night. I guess the two of us are getting noticed, as one of the staff, a sweet young thing who wasn't working last night, skated up to me and asked where my grandson was. That kind of surprised me. Owen has a school party at the rink this afternoon and I told her that. She says "Great, I'm working tomorrow." She knows Owen's concession stand order; a multi flavor Icee and Skittles.
As for the school party, Owen asked that I take him instead of his Mom. Hit me right in the feels. So skating two days in a row for me and one with my skate buddy.
Lastly, there is a slight, albeit, very slight, chance of adding a 1968 AMC Ambassador 4 door to the fleet. Kind of clapped out but all there. V8(290/343/390, seller doesn't know and they all look alike), power steering, brakes and AC. If it was a 67 2 door, it would already be here.

Isn’t the displacement cast right into the driver’s side of the block, relatively close to the motor mount? Just wondering if he knows to check there. I know the later engines (304-401, for example) have the displacement cast in. Not sure about the earlier 290-390 variants.

It's been so long that I don't remember. The seller first said the engine was a 327, which I knew was wrong. I could ask him to take a look when the weather gets above single digits. I'm not that desperate.

Unless its a 67..... that's the last year supposedly for the 327

66 was the last year for the 327. My 67 had a 290.

Correct. That AMC 327 was last used in the FSJs in '67 (though some may have actually made it into early production '68s, as well), but their use in passenger cars ended in 1966. As for the castings on the sides of the block, I looked into it, and all of the second-gen AMC V8s had the numbers showing 290, 304, 343, 360, 390, or 401. Only replacement blocks (warranty blocks) were sans the casting numbers.

Good Grief, there we a lot of kids at the rink this afternoon.

196 pairs of skates rented out. That's not counting the people like Owen and I that have our own skates.

Owen had a blast. His hockey skills had him zipping around the rink full tilt, though he ate it once. I almost went down when a little kid went down in front of me. I jumped and cleared her by inches. Felt all my vertebrae pop when I had all wheels landing back on the rink floor. I had to dig deep to pull up my old braking and maneuvering skills to stay upright this afternoon.
One of the floor guards I know came up and said I picked the wrong session for skating. I pointed out Owen to him and said this was his school event. I was just the taxi driver.

Hopefully , you will still be mobile tomorrow ! :) Glad you could have some fun with Owen !

Alas, there is no joy in Mudville. Both Eli and Owen's teams ate it big time.

Eli's team played a late, 8pm, indoor soccer game, losing 5-1 with E scoring their only goal, doing a header. According to his Mom, he was scoreless during the outdoor season but the teams' leading scorer for the indoor season. I saw him standing next to his Dad after the game and was thinking the kid must be close to 6' tall because Jake is 6' 1". E can look him in the eye at 13.

Owen's team lost 4-1 against a team from Hammond, IN. O and his team were actually celebrating after the game because they've improved. Last time they met, O's team lost 7-0. They have three girls on his team who are probably the most improved players this year. Kind of funny that one kid on the Hammond team tried to intimidate one of the girls. She wasn't having it and checked the kid right on his ass. The boys aren't getting intimidated anymore, either. Early in the first period, one of the Hammond kids was high sticking one of O's teammates, along with trying to trip him, and generally being a dick. When O's team mate never flinched, the other kid started swinging. Bad choice for him because he did it in front of the ref, then shot his mouth off. Penalties of 1:30 for fighting and 10 minutes for misconduct. Apparently that just made the kid more angry because he tried the same shit late in the second period and got ejected. Man, his coach did the Dad arm yank to the kid and benched him. Could have been his Dad for all I know. We all heard him rip into the kid. Almost felt sorry for him. Almost. But then again, no. Not a fan of poor sportsmanship.

After the hockey game, we had lunch with Jake and O at a local brewery. Jake and I both had Poutine. It was effing fantastic. I haven't had poutine since I last worked in Montreal. Even Mrs. Cheesy raved about her sandwich. We highly recommend it. https://www.bywaybrewing.beer/

Next weekend is the end of the season for hockey. I think there's a couple more weeks for soccer.

"Hockey. A fight where a game may break out." ;)

No sir, I just grew up in Calgary, Canada. Coincidentally I know a bunch of guys that also love hockey

It's kinda like soccer, growing up down south, hockey was only on TV for most of my younger years.

Soccer was catching on when I was in high-school but, Baseball and football (the real kind) were king.

Guess that's why we never really got into either of them.
