My towing predicament

Our 02 TJ wheels have 1.5 inch holes in them and it seems the axles have no where to place a strap around them. TJ sports the 5.5" RE long-arm tri-link lift (installed 2011).

The 16-foot trailer being built for us right now has D-rings up front 12" from the corners, and in the rear on the sides about 12" from the rear.
I still have enough time to add D-rings elsewhere if needed.

We're heading to Moab in March for you know what, my 6th or 7th outing there on the trails. I have read many posts and replies, but every time it is not our situation... I Bought the Vulcan strap kit but can't use it I think... The hooks won't go into the front LOD bumper towing points, nor will the straps go through the wheels. Ugh.....

I have a similar set up and tie off axles not the bumpers. If you are worried about side to side roll of the jeep you can run a tie down from the door jam to side of trailer but not necessary. Criss cross from pumpkins. This video shows, she talks a lot skip 1/2 way through. If you tie down from bumpers you either need to compress your shocks hard which is bad or you'll get slack every time the shocks on jeep bounce. Keep the axles in place and tie down straps stay tight

In front you can get to the inner C

In back you can get a tire net to go over the tire.

I’ve got the same problem finding real estate on the axles for straps or even to weld on the pre fab U channel strap anchors.

I resorted to over the wheel straps but they are a hassle given all the straps, ratchets and positioning required. The trailer also needs anchors in the correct positions.

Eventually I will fab up some axle tabs that fit and go to a simple fore/aft strap configuration.

I use these for tying my vehicles down. The orange links fit into the frame holes. Axel straps work but you need to be cognizant of sharp brackets.

Something like this would work also if mounting points on the trailer are in the correct position.

The brake lines are steel, can you use the axle strap and not hurt the brake lines??

I am now considering placing D-Rings (where needed) onto the trailer once I get it... Is that what you have?

Well I forgot to get pictures but I just wrap the strap or chain around the axle housing, hasn't been a problem for me

I bought several of these. They fit into the stake pockets on my trailers. I’ve also welded extra D-rings on all my trailers.
