What did you do to / in your garage / shop today?

Got the generator wired into the new house, the right way. Dedicated circuit & interlock kit. Still only a 30a circuit but it will cover lights, fridge and furnace motor. When the wife complains about the lack of AC in the summer I’ll get to upgrade.

One of my post-retirement goals is to get my garage organized. This is part of the plan. FWIW, what's here is about half of what I purchased. The remaining stuff is already up.

Back in October my wife and I purchased a home with 5 acres in the country. Nice house, little barn, and a small "shop". When we moved, the shop became the dumping spot for everything we did not already have a place for, and now that the old house is finally ready to sell and on the market, I had a chance to start cleaning it up. It is just a simple 24'x32' pole barn that needs a lot of help (like more than a 15 amp circuit going to it and lights (lights would be nice), but it is dry so for the 1st time in my life I have a shop that I can call my own. Poor Jeep has not moved since it was parked there in October....

These pictures are after spending 4 hours cleaning. I have a lot of work to do......

I've got a backhoe if you need a trench for some real power.

I may end up pulling 100a to the shop eventually, but it would be pretty expensive given the distance and obstacles (like my driveway and some big trees). For now, I went with 12K Ah of battery with a 7600W 120/240v inverter. Once I get a bit more organized, I will be rewiring the shop to slowly charge the battery pack with the available 15A circuit, and run everything else in the shop off the battery system through a small panel. Maybe eventually adding some solar panels as well.

I have two more of these inverters for 15kw and 6 (36kwh) more batteries to run the house during power outages, so the added benefit is having a spare inverter and two extra batteries if something happens to the house system. It was a bit expensive, but with the 30% tax credit last year it was not too bad and a great start to getting partially off-grid.

Slowly working to get the garage in shape. Went from this to this. It's a 12" run, so far.
