Bear with me while I try to explain this - I'll probably do a piss poor job...
Its been 24 years since the last time I was overseas - my wife and I spent quite a bit of time in Greece over several years. Now, we just got back from 3 weeks in Egypt. We both have the same feelings now (only worse), as we did a quarter century ago: We don't want to be in the USA anymore.
It isn't because these places are "better" than the US - they're not. Greece is poor, Egypt is poorer. Egypt is a police state, run by the military. El-Sisi is hated by the populace, as he doesn't give a damn about them. Etc, etc. Greece isn't much better, esp. since they "joined" the EU and the Euro zone - prices doubled overnight; I saw it first hand.
BUT: Our government doesn't give a damn about us either. We have two competing visions that are both stupid and tyrannical, supported by "useful idiots" that only want masters that will keep "those people" under control. In the meantime, we all lose. I'm reminded upon our return of just how regimented we are here. We supposedly have more freedoms than anyone else, but do we? Much of that supposed freedom is lost what with the Cradle-to-Grave, Womb-to-Tomb Nanny state. The vehicles people drive "over there" would NEVER be allowed here by our Benevolent OverLords. You can walk into a pharmacy and get many/most drugs - including antibiotics - without a prescription. The pharmacist gives you what you need and they're CHEAP. Contrast that to the bullshit we have to deal with - never fucking mind that our oh-so-wonderful FDA (Fucking Dipshits & Assholes) de-facto banned the only fucking cough medicine that actually fucking worked: Terpin hydrate. I'm particularly pissed about that right now as my wife has a cough that she can't get rid of. I'm fucking beyond sick of the Nanny Statism. OMFG, the kids ride bicycles (those that can afford them) without helmets!
I don't know about Greece now, its been a quarter century since we were there last - but the American bass-ackwards bullshit isn't tolerated in Egypt. Criminals do NOT have more rights than their victims, they do NOT tolerate Woke, DEI, CRT, or any other liberal bullshit, the borders are NOT wide open, the kids are well behaved and respectful - and so are the adults. Indeed, this is the heart of our "problem". The people. The Egyptians were wonderful, the Greeks were wonderful. Americans as a whole are NOT. The only "situation" I had in Egypt involved an American - OBVIOUSLY Liberal - Karen at the Luxor airport as detailed elsewhere. I had a run-in with a similar Karen and her husband in Target just yesterday. Self righteous prigs. People here are just down right RUDE, are self entitled and self righteous, don't know how to fucking drive (more on THAT in a minute), etc, etc etc. Contrast to the Egyptians and Greeks - they're friendly, helpful, not effete or self-entitled, and are nice to be around. Here? I'm getting to where I don't even want to set foot out of the house and deal with American idiots - on the roads, in the stores, where-ever. Wife feels the same way.
Of course, I MOST certainly could write a tome longer than "War & Peace" about American smartphone culture that pretty much doesn't exist in Egypt, even though there still is a distressing number of them to be seen. I won't bore everybody - Egypt has yet to be destroyed by them; kids don't have them, many adults don't either. *JOY*
This is just RUDE - and of course it was an American.
I wish people drove here, like they do "there". Of course, that is quite impossible due to the Nanny State - 3/4's of Americans would be in a crash the first day driving like they do in Egypt or Greece. To an American eye, its complete chaos - but it works and it works far better than our system does here. VERY few stoplights, they're not needed. I didn't see any crashes the entire time I was there - and I also didn't see any rubberneckers either.
Oh, and I probably rode in about 2 vehicles with an automatic transmission - American luxury loving and effeteness need not apply!
Thoughts?
