Savvy Control Arm Grease

So I installed my rear Savvy arms with Johnny Joints and am afraid I did something wrong. I have tried to add grease and cannot get them to accept grease. It seems to me I thought I read somewhere in here but cannot find it again others have had this problem as well. I am using Lucas red and tacky grease I've used it for years and never had problems with solids separating or anything but if that is mysteriously the problem ok ill buy another grease. I hate synthetic greases as the solids in them tend to separate from the liquids.

The johhny joints are packed tight--you wont get them to accept grease thru a zerk, you need to disassemble them to grease them. Many use redline cv-2, though those in clayey areas have been using something else that i cant remember...

I'm one of the poor guys who wheels in clay and can't seem to keep grease in my Johnny joint. You've all seen the nasty shit that results from clay pulling the oil out of the binder. If you need a refresher, go look through @taylormade73's thread.

I've been chatting back and forth with @mrblaine about this, since he made the brilliant connection of oil soak being a clay base. It's no wonder the redline turns into a sticky mess. Started looking at grease for poly bushings. Decide to try some from energy suspension. They call it Formula 5 Prelube. It's a silicone base...

I hate all greases as the solids in them tend to separate from the liquids.

FIFY, happens with ALL greases. Grease is nothing more than a base/thickener with oil added to it.

Made me laugh I read yours and was like "did I fat finger that shit again". Nah I have noticed it worse with synthetics. Never had that problem with the Red n Tacky but that's like opinions and assholes we all have one. I have only tried Amsoil and Valvoline synthetics in the automotive world but had similar problems with some of the synthetics we use on machine tools at work as well.

I have 5 different grease guns and have used 20 different greases over the years trying to find one that didn't leak oil out and make a mess over time. Everything from Red and Tacky to many versions of synthetic, Marine, etc. They all do it and I even fell victim to the highly recommended Green Grease and a special gun I was promised would not leak oil. 2 months later, it was in the trash. Not sure how to stop it but if anyone has a grease that doesn't do it that works on suspension and bearings, I'm all ears.

I have never found one that wouldn’t leak. Ended up just giving in an putting a catch under the grease gun.
The summer heat lets them really get To leaking.

Yeah we have run through hundreds of grease types and formats in our machine tools because of the coolants, composites, aluminum, and titanium that gets in the coolant there is a lot of break downs. Then the machines are soo big its takes months for grease to make it from the reservoir to a completed lube cycle. There are some Mobil specialized greases that we have found work pretty well Ill throw some info out when I have time and see.

Rock jock specifies what grease to use, and more importantly what grease to NOT use. You can add grease through the zero but there is a procedure. You need to line up the race tracks in the joint to the zero or it won't take any grease and you could blow the joint apart.

I think you might have confused a TRE procedure with a JJ procedure.

I wouldn't do it, but I'm curious if anyone has put one in a refrigerator...if it would keep it from leaking out all over, which I expect every time I get my grease gun out.

My bottled water already tastes like Mopar 3Bond and rear view mirror button glue, I don't want to know what grease tastes like.

Ah, come on Mr. Blaine. You can't tell me you've never tasted grease. As much work as you've done on vehicles over decades, and you've never accidentally ingested grease just a little bit? I've had just about every automotive fluid out there touch my lips over the years! Oil most frequently. I bet I've been splashed in the face a half-dozen times! I even stepped in a drain-pan full of waste oil once. Ruined a pair of shoes and made an awful mess! Well, really just ruined one shoe, but I opted to toss the other, rather then wear just one shoe.

If they're already greased and installed, I'd just roll with it until you need to service them for some reason, or you're bored one day.

I'm planning on completely dissembling mine yearly for greasing and inspection. Spent the money on their tool, too, after messing up on with a press.

It was all about marketing and the competition. There's a thread on here somewhere about it.

They are supposedly pre-greased. Some folks say they work fine for years, some need to grease them right away. Mine ran for about a year on the factory grease. Then they started "groaning" (best description I can come up with). With a Harbor Freight press and some large garage sale sockets, a plumbing fitting, and snap ring pliers, I had no problem disassembling and re-greasing them.

I think maybe 1 out of the 36 I have received from them had a good coat of grease - I've had to grease them all either before install or very soon after install (and it's kind of a pain to pull arms to grease).
