Wildman's TJ is getting a face lift

After I'd gotten the Jeep/trailer over to Mike's (Crash) house we'd looked at it a little more and he felt that if the corners of the mini truss had been boxed in it might not of ripped in half like it did...

So now the question is do I try to find another mini truss similar to what I have or get a full length truss instead?

TMR offers a simple truss for a Dana 60... Figure I could make it fit...

4X Store makes a nice one... And I could run it out to the trackbar bracket and tie-into it?

New Venture Motorsports offers a full width one also

I thought there was someone else who offered a truss for the HP44 but I haven't found any..... Since TNT stopped offering stuff it limits options...

So far I like the 4X Store the most so far.

The first option doesn't give you much to weld on. That could be a problem, if there's going to be any load on the mini truss. The second has much more surface area to weld, if strength is a concern. However, you're adding more mass that could get in the way of other things. The overarching question is, what strength do you need?

Rich,
Based on what just happened I'm going to say strength is more important. And based on what I can remember right now I've got the room for up travel to have a truss going all the way over the axle.

I need to try and do some searching and see if I can find examples of good trusses that are running a 3 link front...

Barnes makes one too... Technically it's for the rear but might work???

I like the looks of the 4X Store one. Will any of these impede on precious space occupied by the Hemi or anything else?

I don't think so

I'll have to trim whichever one I go with to fit around the drivers side coil mount & the trackbar mount. But height off the axle tube I think will clear.

This one is from Clayton Off-Road but pretty minimalist

But if it's more like this shape it might work...

Guess it helps if I read the "full description"

NOTE: Current version is 3/8s thick as shown in main picture. Vehicle pictures show older 1/4 design with bends front and rear. Same install, but now thicker with more clearance.

Can Crash fix what you have? He's the man!

Nope, The current truss is FUBAR... On top of ripping the drivers side completely the passenger side of it is bent and mangled.. So it's all going to need to be removed and a new truss welded on... And then boxed in to help take the force of the upper link...

I like the more open design of the NV but that seems like you would have to remove other brackets on the passenger side and rework them.

It seems you're narrowed down to those two, but the Barnes would basically be like what you had with the added gusseting like you talked about. They have the universal in 3 different sizes. Something more compact would minimize the additional work needed. But I also know you're trying to make it stronger to avoid a similar problem in the future.

The Barnes truss for a Ford is higher

I'd trim either of them down to fit onto my axle since mine is narrowed to Waggy width... Next Venture does offer a Waggy version but it's a full kit where I can get JUST the truss for the HP44...

Oops, I was mistaken... They do offer the Waggy in a truss only but I doubt it'd fit properly.

Yep I'd looked at them... I'm still more inclined to go with the full truss...

Pulled the trigger on the Next Venture truss... I'll trim it to fit my axle...

Nice thing is that they also offer a military discount..

As I said I'll tie it into the trackbar bracket on the passenger side and the spring mount on the drivers side...

Guess I should of added.... The whole axle is going to have to come out from under the Jeep....

But first of course is that I've got to get the Jeep home so I can start working on it..... And then get things cut-off and welds cleaned up so I can weld things on...
And of course, trying to find everything I can on 3 link suspensions and strengthening the truss to withstand the forces of that 3 link upper...

Just me thinking out loud.... Didn't I send you a link to a front Dana 60 a little while back?
