This summer my 05 LJ has been overheating a little at long traffic lights with the A/C on. The needle moves from left of the 210 dot (between 2 & 1) to the right of dot (between 1 & 0). I ordered and installed a Hayden 2771 fan to replace the original one. It’s better, but still overheating after about 4 minutes of idling. The G05 HOAT orange coolant that I put in 2 years ago when I replaced the radiator still looks great. I drained the cooling system and added flush to the system. After running the engine, I drained and filled it with distilled water again. I then removed and installed a new 195 thermostat. I refilled the system with distilled water again to see how it did. I drove the jeep to Home Depot and let it idle at home and after 7 to 8 minutes the needle did move to the right of the dot for the 210. Temperature does return to the left of the dot (between the 2 & 1). Better, but still a little hotter after idling than it used to be. The water pump along with the upper & lower hoses was replaced 5 years ago. Do you all think this is acceptable? I will be draining the system of the distilled water and filling with (1) gallon of MOPAR coolant, (1) gallon of distilled water, and top it off with 50/50 MOPA coolant.

Before and after draining the radiator of coolant it looks great, the tubes inside are clean. The outside is also clean shows no sign of buildup on the radiator. I have sprayed the outside radiator and the A/C coil with cleaner. After driving a couple miles, the temp goes from between 2 &1 when driving to the 1 & 0 of the 210 mark after idling for 7-8 minutes now. This is with only distilled water in the system. I have not but the new MOPAR HOAT coolant in it.

Why do you believe it’s overheating? 210 is normal. 215 under the conditions you described is not overheating.

Yes 210 is normal for the 4.0 engine. When it is showing between the 1 & 0. So, I have checked it with an ER temperature after idling it is showing it to be 230.

Please post a picture of your dash gauge when it’s running hot.

OK here are some pictures. I do not have a scanner.

The last picture shows 210. Do you have a picture of the temperature when you believe it’s overheating?

The first picture of the gage shows the temperature gage showing between the 2 & 1. The second picture shows the temperature gage reading between the 1 & 0. This is when the ER gage shows the temperature at the thermostat housing as 230 degrees. Before this summer it has always was between the 2 & 1. If everyone thinks this is normal, I will not do anything else but just drain and fill with the new coolant.

You’re not overheating.

2771 is not the right fan for TJ in hot areas.
2791 is the correct version.
Also, when you replace the fan clutch, replace the fan itself to 6 fan Derale Blade.
This will significantly improve your cooling.
