Largest tires with 3.07 gears?

3spd auto, or 4spd OD auto.

With the 3 speed automatic there is no OD so highway driving will be fine. Maybe great. I ran 33s thru a 5spd with 3.07s. I never used 5th gear, OD.

With the 4 speed automatic, 4th, OD will be useless. PERIOD.

But the issue with the automatic will be lift from a stop. Even a minor grade will be hard on the torque converter. You can compensate off road by always using 4LO. In which case, with the 3.07s you will think you are in a Mustang. You'll be able to hit 60mph in 4LO. So if you like fast forestry roads as I did, you'll love 3.07s and 33s.

But no doubt, you will need a new torque converter sooner than with 3.73s.

Use this...

Haha! Fuck if I know! How do I find that out? Excuse the ignorance.

3.07 and 20% of the time on hunting trails, 31's. For that type of usage 33's aren't necessary. If you must have the "look" and only 33's will get you there, your options are a re-gear or live with the lack of "power."
Thanks dude! Yea I’m just going to stick with my 31s until I can do a proper build for the “look” I’ve wanted since I was a teenager. I use to have a 98’ Sahara when I was 18 and bought 33” LTBs and was going to buy a 4” Superlift when a guy pulled out in front of me causing it to flip 4x so now i found an 01’ that I’m going to have some fun with and want to attempt to recreate what I wanted back then but I’ll just have to be patient. Buy some gears, a nice lift and maybe another set of Swampers or Baja Claws. Sorry for the novel.

For those with 3.07 gears and 32" tires. What are your rpms at let's say 65mph

I have and by that it say I would be closer to 3.55 gear. I run about 1900 rpm at 65. Just asking around for research

Three speed auto with 3.07's and 33's was 2000 rpm at 65 mph, you would see about 2100 on your 32's.

Now with 4.10's 2750 rpm at 65 mph.

So you will get the same RPM/MPH is 4th as the 3speed automatic in 3rd.

as long as it's 1:1. if 3rd gear in the 3spd is 1.00 and 4th in the 5spd is 1.00 and they both have the same final drive ratio of 3.07 then yes, you'd be spinning the same rpm with the same tire height. only difference is an auto can unlock the converter and gain a bit of rpm if needed before downshifting under load.

On my 2006 TJ I ran 35's with 3.07 for about 6 months or so until I got my new axles. I used 33's on it for about 3 to 4 years. I wheeled it and daily drove it but I could only use 4low when wheeling. My TJ has the 6 speed manual so 6th was no usable at all. I love my now 4.88 with my 35's.

I have ran 3.07 on 33x12.5r15 for over ten years with an auto, mainly because I’m too cheap to regear! I have no problem, but don’t tow. It does have to shift down going up hill, and I rarely drive faster than 70 mph.

My 98 sahara is a 5 speed runs 33 12.5 R15 on stock Dana 35/ Dana 30. Ran like a top back in the day. Highway and mudding. Of course I had to downshift going up hills. I think regearing and heavy axles is only needed for serious off roading. Otherwise your just playing. If your mostly highway driving you don't need it. However I haven't towed my boat with it too much. So I don't know if heavier gears would help.

im running 33s (285s) more like 32.8" with 307s on an auto 3spd, overall acceleration is ok and I can set cruise at 70/75mph no problem, I don't think its that bad but id like to regear eventually.

I've just changed from a 265 to a 285 tire, so 32" to 33" and have standard gearing. On a 6 speed 4.0 even with the 32's you lose 6th gear, which is ok. I was pretty happy with the drive and never really felt that I needed to alter gearing apart from low 1st gear not being as low as it should be.
With the 33's, I now need to alter gearing and felt the need as soon as they were fitted. It's livable but you'll have a much nicer drive with a smaller tire.

I have a 2000 automatic and run 33 x 12.50 BFG's with 3.07 gears i get 16 mpgs and just a little start off power loss. I have plenty of power to take off at red lights and keep up with folks. It will run 70 or 80 on the expressway and no loss of power like straight shifts. Love mine

Scott, is yours lifted at all? I'm a new member and waiting for my first jeep to arrive. I'm curious to learn if the 33s cause any problem on a stock TJ (with tire rubbing, gearing, etc.).
