Does your TJ have a name?

When I purchased my jeep off of marketplace, I had to give the old owners a ride to the dmv to get the title squared away(long story). Anyways, I’m glad I did because I got to hear some great stories of the past 12 yrs of them owning it. My favorite being one of their favorite memories of taking it out in a farmers field when she was overdue with her second baby hoping the bouncing would get things moving . It didn’t work, but they still laugh about it to this day.
They named her sunset. I could not change her name after hearing how much this jeep meant to them. So she is Suni for short. Below is the picture and post they took together with Suni before handing her off to me :)

Mine is named Blue Moon. Not for the beer.
It is once in a blue moon when we get to go on vacation in it.

For those that don't know, a blue moon is two full moons in the same month which happens every 3 to 7 years.
I thought it had something to do with the song, maybe. I like how the name came to be. Very creative!

Way cool, @Kathy. Gotta love a good history like that!

I bought Rusty Cage last Memorial Day not long after Chris Cornell of Soundgarden died. Naturally there was a Soundgarden renaissance happening on the radio then. Rusty Cage was on the radio when I test drove it. And well, the color.

Great Name...

Saw them play 'rusty cage' live back in 1992, at the University of Maryland's old Richie Colosseum... dont even know if that venue exists any longer.

After we got the Jeep we talked about a name for months. One time we were wheelin and heard a rattler in between some rocks, so we almost named it “The Rattler.” At other times we thought something like, “Little Red” or “Big Red,” depending on where we’re were in the build. I would say five other names have been suggested, one last week, I can’t even recall what it was, but none of them stuck. It’s just “the Jeep” and I think that’s all it will ever be because tha’ts what it is.

I agree. I do feel like my jeep has a personality or something special about her. I never felt that before. When you think about the history of vehicles , it,would be great to know all the stories it holds.
I've never outgrown that feeling of climbing behind the wheel of an old vehicle (the older, the better) and sitting there, pondering what it was like when it was driven off the showroom floor and into the driveway of its new owner. Was it someone's pride and joy? A longtime goal finally reached? Or was it just transportation to them, and nothing more? Some of my vehicles hit me with that way more than others. My '58 Edsel Citation 2-door hardtop..."Marilyn"...was one such vehicle. I'd sit in that car for a half an hour at a time, just sitting there like some love-smitten kid, thinking about what she must've been like in her heyday. LOL Yeah, I guess even an Edsel had a "heyday" at some point in time. Well, maybe...

My 98 TJ is called "El chustro" that translate for an underdog on our idioms dictionary.

I never think on a name for the LJ until my jeep buddy's start to difference my LJ from others around calling it "Jorge's LJ". Falling for the Instagram communication with other jeepers I create and account called "El Rojo LJ" to removed my name from the name my buddy's put on it. Not sure if one day I will really named.

Great thread!

I've known more then one farmer that names their tractors and I remember lot's of people doing it in the 70's too. Isn't there some superstition about it being good luck to name your vehicles with female names? That's what I've always done...

...my first love was a magenta TJ, aka "Magre" and my current girlfriend is a silverstone TJ called "June". :ladiesman:

I used to have '67 1-ton Dodge dually pick-up (9' bed with dually fenders) that I called "Big Mo", as in "Big Mother!". My wife, however, informed me it stood for "Big Money". It stuck. :)

It seemed for a time that I believed it was the gals who named their vehicles, but I'm discovering us guys are just as likely to do so as they are. I find this interesting. Who'd a thunk it? o_O
