Helpful quirks

When my previous 2000 TJ Sport was on and running, I could pull the key out of the ignition. This was great for offroading to keep the keys from clanging all over the place. It was also great when I was working on something inside the cab and wanted to have the radio on while the door was open, but not have the annoying door ajar chime. A buddy of mine was also able to pull his key all the way out while running on his 2002 X as well. I'm guessing this is a result of and older key getting worn down after so many years.

I can't pull the key out of my current 2004 Rubicon in the same fashion, but I did notice the other day that I *can* shift the key outward about 25% of the way while the key is turned backward to accessory, which is great because it is just enough to turn off the door ajar chime.

Anyone else able to do this?

What other quirks have you found on your Jeep that are helpful/welcomed?

I can pull the key out in any position. My spare key that isn't worn won't come out. works good for me when I'm flat towing the Jeep and don't have to leave the key in the ignition. I just put it in the unlock position and pull the key out.

My key used to do that. I got tired of the keys falling out while driving, so I rebuilt the cylinder. The 03's also have this funny (and unhelpful) quirk where factory radio would shut off if the key backed out.

The bad part about being able to pull the key out was that if someone else drove it (mechanic, valet, etc.), they could leave it in the ON position without knowing it, leaving accessories on.

I never had the keys fall out on their own. I could definitely see that as a problem.

Somewhat related, I do wish the accessory position was between the on and off positions rather than behind the off position. Sometimes it would be nice to keep the radio on when you turn the engine off.

Seems like this would be a nice perk for whenever you need to unlock your mid-console or glove box after you've started your car. I've had more than a couple days lately where this has happened to me since I'm running topless in the beautiful weather that's been abound.

Of course, another fix would just be having an extra key with an easy detach on your key ring, but that's just a bigger set of keys to carry around.

The actuator pin in my ignition broke this morning and I think it was partially because when I first started my Jeep, I realized that my console was locked and pulled the key out quickly. It was probably bound to bust soon anyway, but that couldn't have helped. :BangHead:
