Transmission Line Connection - Cooler Install

Hey Guys,

In the middle of installing my B&M 70264 transmission cooler. I have the cooler mounted up in front of the radiator. I know the line back to the tranny is on the drivers side. I went to work on the drivers side output line and got confused with the current connections I have. There is a clip I was able to take out to allow me to pull the hard line out. But not sure how I am supposed to hook up the hoses to make this work. I know I have to tap into the drivers side hose into the cooler and back out to the hard line. I expected hoses with regular clips. Any help is appreciated.

The OE hose fitting should be able to be unscrewed from the radiator. At least it was on mine, I replaced it with a threaded hose barb like in your photo. You may need a different thread size brass hose barb but hardware stores are good sources for them.

Thanks Jerry, I was able to pull out the hard hose, it wasnt screwed in but held by a clip. The radiator side hole isnt threaded so I cant use any of those threaded barbs. Pics below, one of radiator connection and one of hard line back to tranny.

I dunno but that fitting on your radiator definitely appears to be threaded into the radiator and thus removable with a wrench.
 
Welp, I took a 3/4th wrench to that nut on the radiator and coolant started spewing out.

That was my experience also. I decided to use the OEM connector. I took a small cut-off wheel and carefully cut off the crimped metal fitting where the OEM rubber hose connects to the metal tubing. With the crimped connector removed, the rubber hose pulls off the the tubing. I slid a new piece of rubber hose over the OEM tubing and ran that TO the auxiliary oil cooler. I connected the return line from the auxiliary oil cooler to the OEM rubber hose, using a brass barbed connector.

You can buy short OE style fittings that are open on one end allowing the hose to slid on and be clamped. Amazon is where I bought mine

Since I was using a double barb fitting to connect the return hose from the aux cooler to the OEM return hose, I cut the rubber OEM hose at the crimp connector. It was much easier to remove the metal part of the crimped connector on my work bench, instead of removing in place, while laying on my back under the jeep.

I did not do a coolant flush, because one was done recently by the PO of my jeep.

IF I was planning on a coolant flush, I probably would have done as Jerry B recommended.
 
Thanks everyone for the tips. @LukesfirstJeep, I went with your route and was able to cut the crimp off. Slipped the hose on and used a hose clamp. Hopefully it helps someone else who expected a simple hose and clamp.

Going though looking at these old forums, trying to find these fittings...
I have looked and looked, and can not find them. Rob5589, do you have a link that you can share?
I know this was a while ago, but hope you can help me out...

When I installed a transmission cooler on my 98 JZ, I cut the rubber line coming from the radiator going back to the transmission, put a fitting inline to connect the rubber hose to the extension that ran the cooler to the front, ran the extension return hose back and connected to the rubber hose going to the transmission. One cut, two hose connections.

I also added new ATF fluid a quart at a time, ran the car with the transmission in gear for a quart of old out, then off for a quart of new in. I pumped the old fluid out until the fluid coming from the radiator line looked new, then finished the connection to the new cooler and topped off the fluid. Theoretically, that would be the point you drop the transmission pan and change the filter, but it's not bad to change the ATF more often and that was as good a time and method as any.

No leaks in the 10 years I owned it.
 
When we installed a A/T cooler on our grandson 06 TJ we also questioned on how to contact the hoses to and from the cooler. After looking we just decided to used a tubing cutter to cut the metal tube in half. After cutting we attached the hoses used clamps.
