Blew the engine up: Best approach to replacing it?

Dont see any threads on this........seen ATK? motors, but some with bad reviews on customer service, seen jasper motors with bad reviews.....seen rebuilds but block no longer good.......bodys in good shape, but, not good enough to throw a hemi or something like that in it.......junk yard motors?....squirrelly?.....new chyrsler motors anywhere?, but this one just blew up......

Remanufactured 4.0 crate engines are readily available just about everywhere. @billiebob went through the same thing with his, and when I had to replace my 4.0 on my XJ, I got a fully remanufactured unit from LKQ for $1800.

Just put a new one in and call it a day.

I went thru S and J Engines, Spokane, same $1800.00 after the core refund. Not a rebuild, a remanufactured long block with a 7 year warranty.

Don't waste yer money on a rebuild.

thats a serious warranty, from what i have seen out there.....looks like they take pride in their work

have you heard anything about the stroker motor they got?s would it be worth the upgrade to the stroker motor? an is there any more expense with the stoker motor, like, external parts?

On a side note, I was up in spokane one time sittin on a couch, an the owners dog, ran into the house, with dog poop all over his feet, ran across us, who were sitting on the couch, an got the dog poop all over us.......now that was funny.

Ya, not much around here with engine shops, that i have seen, an the motors got a hole in the side now, so no rebuild on whats in there? Theres a guy up in cleveland that sells rebuilds for like 1100. i think he said, with a one year warranty, or more for like a three year warranty. But i just learned what rebuilt an remanufactured an short block an long block means............i think we going with remanufactured....

I've got a good 4.0l that I'm trying to sell, 205k on it, it was a Rural Postal Route RHD 2006 TJ Wrangler. I was asking $600 but at this point I would sell it for $300 just to get it out of my shop!!!

I think i might go with the remanufactured, but, I will keep it in mind. Will a 2006 slip right into a 2002, with no problems? an depends where i buy one, an how much they want for a core, it may be worth buying it an giving that one as a core. but if you find a buyer sell it, in the mean time.

on a side note, i was once in virgina, on my chopper, trying to catch up to someone, to tell them to slow the hell down, an a trooper pulls me over, an says, you know how fast you were doing an why were you driving with one hand, waving it at them........" nope, dont know how fast i was doing, cause my speedo is broke, an a new speedo is in that trailer, I was trying to catch, to tell em, to slow the hell down, cause they were flying to go beat up their landlord cause he wanted to keep their rent deposit, and they are going to get me pulled over.........."

I bought a 6.0 for a GMC I used to have, and when a friend blew up his Cherokee he bought a 4.0. Both times the engine came on time, delivered in a sealed crate. To return, just put the old engine in the crate and call the shipper to come pick it up. I sold the GMC soon after so I can't comment on their longevity, but my friend's Cherokee is still running strong.

Go with the long block, that way everything is all buttoned up, adjusted and like new. It becomes a pretty straight forward "bolt in" process. The shop I used took 16 hours and they replaced the rad, clutch and all the rubber parts, hoses, belts etc at the same time.

Mine was done about 18 months ago, no rear main seal or valve cover oil leaks. I drive mine lots, almost 40K miles in 18 months, lots of it towing a trailer, I doubt any rebuild will be as good.
