Ok, I know this subject has been talked about many times and I did search some older threads but I wanted to reach out again. I have a 2002 TJ that only came with a hard top and full doors. I want to run during the summer with a soft top and half doors. I have purchased the half doors and OEM soft top frame. I am going to also purchase door surrounds. How I am looking online to decide what soft top to purchase. There are so many out there so very confused. Thought about frameless and then just hold on to the parts I purchased but then read good and bad things about frameless. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks, Frank

If you get the Bestop Supertop NX kit it comes with every part needed including the door surrounds. It is ideal for someone converting from a hardtop.

I looked at that online and it seems to get good reviews, however on the forum some people mentioned the added support bar over the front seats doesn’t work well and the top flaps around a lot. Also if I drive the work in the morning with the top up and then when leaving want to put the top down with the standard top the support frame can just roll back, seems like the frameless top you remove the whole thing if you don’t want a sun rider type. Thanks for your reply, the Bestop NX is one I am considering.

You’re in Luck. Already have done the research. I’m going to do exactly what you’re doing. Anyways, here’s the top I’ll be ordering:

Bestop 79129-35 Black Diamond Sailcloth Replace-A-Top Soft Top with Tinted Windows and Upper Door Skins for 2003-2006 Wrangler TJ (except Unlimited) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000VLD7XK/?tag=wranglerorg-20

That support bar is not needed at all to make the top taut, I trashed mine. The top is tight/taut and perfect without the bar. I still don't believe it serves a need. Bestop sponsored me on mine and when I was with the Bestop marketing people, made a similar comment to them about it. They agreed they didn't understand what it did or what it was for either.

I bought the rampage frameless soft top. It does really well i think....PLUS, it seconds as a bikini top. The top, of the soft top, is double layered and comes with a zip pocket to put your side and rear windows. Seems well made and has held up for me. I live in Alabama, and recently, we have had high winds, warm weather one day, and 32 degrees and lower on other days....has rained almost everyday, for the last month here. Still holding up, and NO leaks....you do have to purchase door surrounds though. I bought best top door surrounds and it came with a tailgate bar. And you will need the front bar too. (I already had mine from the bikini top I have)

BTW......heat is your friend when putting on a new soft top. And take your time and do not force the zippers! It will eventually go on. Mine is an EXACT fit.

Just for reference, what 'front bar' are you referring to?
