Does anyone have a wiring diagram for installing a 12voltguy in cab winch controller into a 5 pin winch (warn m8000)?
@ac_ I was reading an old thread and it seemed like you attempted this already and wanted to know if you have any insight.

Warn went to a 5-pin controller years ago so you could instantly disable the winch/stop it in emergency by pulling the remote control's plug at the winch. Doing so disables/interrupts the ground connection the solenoids require to operate.

You can convert it to 3-wire operation by hard-wiring the solenoid's ground connection directly to ground inside the winch instead of it having to run through the remote control first. There's a "daisy-chain" ground connection running between each solenoid, that's what you would hard-wire to ground so a 3-wire remote like from 12voltguy will work.

That's a great idea also. I already purchased the switch from 12v guy though so I'm looking for a way to make that one work.

Yep it is super easy

Basically, wire it up to the instructions of the 3 wire as the 12volt wire guy suggests then ground the center pin on the winch.

Notice the black wire on the middle pin? That is all you have to do extra.

And here is my switch it says Plan B:

Yep it is super easy

Asking for a second pair of eyes from a quality forum from Jerry or anyone really. I have a 9.5xp I am trying to wire with a 3 wire winch control panel from 12voltguy. I can not for the life of me get this to work. Hand remote works great. I tried @mrblaine method of using the pigtails of the harness but I can only get the winch to spool in or out based of touching the white power wire to an in/out connection. Here is a photo of my current configuration with a wire running from the daisy chained ground to body (and to winch ground). Anyone have any advice on how to get this wired up whether it be in the solenoid box or the winch controller pigtails? I’m sure I’m missing something small.

I believe the white wire is an in and out that you are not using according to your picture.
Look at the solenoid picture of mine scroll back a couple. Mine was a 5 wire controller and a 3 wire switch. Try wiringing exactly like mine above.

Looks like red goes to white according to mine. Brown goes to black and also grounds to the chassis.

Also the wires from 12 volt guy should be labeled as well as looking at my solenoid pack 1 and 3 are in and out and 2 is ground. Your power will be up at your switch. So which ever one has power that is the way your winch will move. I hope that makes sense, but the picture of my solenoid like two posts back should be color coded the same as your solenoid. Try that. Let me know how that works.

Wait it looks like the red one snakes around and bolts to power, but the brown and brown go together and are grounded. Don't put your red to brown. but the other stuff looks right. Concentrate on that picture and try it like mine. I wired my old 8000 that had a solenoid back the same as yours. It should work.
 
I wired my m8000 just like ac's and it worked out great. You can always email 12volt guy. He is quick to respond and very helpful.

I’m a bit confused. This is how it is supposed to be wired right? What wire is out of place in what photo?

Edit: I have the browns connected and grounded to the motor (or frame niether seem to change anything). My red and green are connected the in and out solenoid. What gives?

On pin 1 I have a white and a red on pin 2 I have browns and grounded, and pin 3 greens.

Did you try that? On your picture you weren't using your white at all. Also just for you information the wires with the heat sync are coming from the 3 wire that the 12volt guy gave me and the others with the red spade connectors are the ones coming with the winch.

So the red wire is coming from the switch and connecting to the white winch wire. The browns go together and ground. Then lastly the greens match.

Basically if you want the winch to go on way power goes to pin 1 if you want it to go the other way power goes to pin 3.

I understand your solenoids don't have pins but the colors should tell you what your solenoids do. So yours doesn't say pin 1, but you should have a white winch wire. Connect your 12 volt guy red wire to that? Do you see the pattern?

You may be confused with your switch because it is a 5 wire it sends ground back and forth of which is not necessary. You are already sending power back and forth.

Take the winch switch out of it. ground the brown and send power to one of the other two and see what they do. I am assuming your winch wires are the red, green and brown. Here is what you try, don't use the switch at all. Get a power and ground and put the ground on the brown then put power on your green only, then the red only see if it does what you expect. Lets start there!

Ok so I do have a white wire I have not tapped into that should have power. So you advise removing the 12voltguy red wire and attaching it to the white wire on the solenoid keeping all other things the same (ground is daiseychained brown, green wire goes straight to the green wire). Wouldn’t the white wire only affect one circuit? As in the green and brown wire being properly wire at least allow the winch to spool in one direction?

Minus the switch, the only way I have been able to get the winch to spool is my jumping the white wire using the remote leads to the green wire or the black wire. I’m skeptical that dismantling the red wire (12voltguy) & black wire (warn) connection will allow the switch to work. I’m going to remove the remote from this equation and solely focus on the solenoid box. I will attempt the wiring shown in the photo later this afternoon and post up results.

How about this?

Out = Black 12v:red
In = Green 12v:green
Ground = Brown 12v: black (also grounded out with daisy chain)

I believe white would only be used as power if you wanted to power a light on a switch

Ok double check that your solenoids are wired correctly with the right colored wires. Someone stupidly may have replaced a wire with a different color wire. Look at the schematics and make sure you have what they have. Honestly my new winch has that Chinese solenoid pack, but my old warn winch had your solenoid pack and I wired mine to a off-on-off switch with my own wires. I don't remember it being that difficult.

I think you take my advice and try figuring out your solenoids with jumper wires. You really just need a ground and power to the right wires. It should be a ground and power the in or ground and power the out. You need to figure out on your solenoid what is in and out. Also since it is an old 3 wire winch you probably don't need to worry about grounding the browns. I mean it won't hurt, but it might not be necessary since you are not really sending grounds back and forth like the new winches. .

I've got mine wired as pictured, but only IN works even when I switch the green and red at the switch. Ideas??
