I was replacing the front exhaust pipe on my 1997 Jeep Wrangler with a 4.0 when I discovered my O2 sensor was too tight and just wouldn’t come off. I decided to just lower the pipe to the ground thinking I had enough room on the harness rather than just release the quick connection... I know... stupid. Because the wires pulled completely out of the harness... I can reattach them with some minimal effort and a soldering iron but I have no idea what color wire goes where.... im curious starting from the back of the harness in a clockwise direction, what are the wire colors? I have a green with black stripe, Brown with yellow stripe and 2 black wires coming from the main harness.

Indy, thanks for throwing that up there for me.. Unfortunately, it doesn't help. My colors are definitely different... I pretty clearly have a brown and yellow, green and black a black and green and a plain old black. I initially said there were 2 blacks but looking closer at the photo, I realize there's a green stripe on one of them... This does get me 2 wires closer though... if anyone has a moment to look at their wires, I would be very appreciative.. I think they should be accessible from above though it may be tight. Specifically, I have a 1997 Jeep Wrangler Sahara with a straight 6. Thanks for your help Indy. I do appreciate it.

Which O2 sensor, the one just below the headers or one on the catalytic converter?

Hey Jerry! It was the front pipe so just below the headers. Thanks for checking into my question. With Indy’s help, I think I’ve got 2 of the wires... the other 2 may be a crap shoot.

FSM is your friend, it has a good wiring diagram. The wire colors and every connector is labeled, both sides. That's the only thing I would trust. I've never been good at craps.

Yeah, I agree. I dont want you to think I was just gonna take my chances... my next step will be to find a used car lot somewhere with a similar wrangler and ask for permission to poke my head around. I suck at gambling...

Here you go, this shows the schematic of the overall O2 wiring, the bottom one shows the wiring for your upstream 02 sensor connector.
