Garage Lift Question

I recently built my dream garage...24x36x12. Woo hoo! Now I can work on my vehicles and tractors with room to spare. Those who have a lift, I'd like your opinion on what ones are the best for home use. I built the garage with a 12' ceiling and 6" reinforced concrete floor so I could install a lift. I'd appreciate any thoughts or opinions, pros and cons. Thanx!

I could but I don't since 90% of my work is needed to be done with the rig at ride height.

No kidding? I guess that makes sense though now that I think about it.

Check out Greg Smiths and Summit Racing catalogs. I got my 9,500 lift from them (Greg Smith) and could not be happier. I have 5 cars and trucks plus a motorcycle and use the lift for almost all routine maintenance --oil changes. Unfortunately I can't get the motorhome 28,000 pounds on the lift. Besides my door is only 12 ft and the shop is only 32 ft long.

At just younger than Jerry, I don't do any work on vehicles laying on my back! Blaine is much MUCH younger than Jerry and me!

When I was 18 I used to be on my back working under the car all the time. Didn't effect me whatsoever.

I'm only 33, but if I do that now, I feel like death the next few days! So, while I can't relate entirely, I can say that you must feel 3 times what I'm feeling when you have to do something under the car on your back!

I sold my 4 post lift about 2 months ago just prior to moving. I had the 8K lift from Greg Smith as Stinger mentioned, and I used the lift for 10 years and it performed without any problems. When I get my new garage built here I am considering a 2 post unit only because it provides much greater access to the undercarrage than the 4 post. The only thing to consider with the 2 post is a proper concrete floor as there is substancially more load on the 2 points than 4 points. Sounds like you have a good floor though.

You might also search around on Craigslist as they do pop up there and that's how I sold mine.

I helped a buddy who owns a garage and the lifts we installed were the Atlas 2-posters from Greg Smith. Good prices and the lifts worked great. I designed the garage so I could use a 2-poster. Good advice everyone...mucho appreciated. I'm 56 and it's OK working on my back under the vehicles...its getting back up that's a bit*&! LOL! ....and walking around after...

Got 3" of snow last night...no rain here!

Been good the last 2 days but today it's coming down in buckets.

Since moving in 16 days ago I emptied the rain gage which measures up to 5" for the second time yesterday and right now it is showing 3" in the last 24 hours.

That's 13" of rain in 16 days..

I think ill wait a bit before coming back. Right now I have 26 inches of snow in the yard so maybe rain isn't so bad!

Coming from the east coast I will always agree the rain is better than snow but this is getting rediculous, I just emptied the rain gage for the second time in 24 hours. Thats 5" of rain since about 11 PM last night.

I think you can get used to it. According to those average rain charts I posted a while back, Brookings gets more rain than Portland, which is saying a lot, since it rains a shit ton there!

I hope so. I received the Weathertech floor liners for the new truck this morning and it was coming down so hard I could not even install them without getting drenched so I'll try tomorrow.

I've got those mats for every vehicle I own (including the TJ) and love them.

Hopefully you catch a break soon. We've sure seen a lot of snow out here in Salem today. Typical Oregonians driving (and acting) like pansies because of 2 inches... LOL

All things considered, that seems like a very reasonable price!
