Fun at the Beach

Took my '99 TJ out with my club on it's first run, fitting it was Oceano Dunes SVRA which I have loved since my first time there back in 2002. My Jeep has been getting some upgrades since I bought it completely stock. Currently it has a 4" Trailmaster lift (cheap short arm) and 33" tires that I swapped from my '95 Cherokee. Aside from some electrical doodads (CB & Rugged Radio, new Pioneer deck, rock LED lights, backup LED lights, and pillar-mounted LED lights) I have also added front & rear bumpers, 9500# winch with synthetic line, swing-out tire carrier with mount for Hi-Lift and shovel, and rock sliders. I am getting ready to swap the front Dana 30 with a HP-Dana 30(cherokee axle) with ARB and 4.88 gears, and swap the rear Dana 35 with a Dana 44/Detroit locker and 4.88. Also the rear has a Teraflex Disc brake kit on it and chromo axles. I also got a used Nth Degree bellypan which I intend to swap with the stock pan, and eventually upgrade to a long-arm suspension.

Overall this was just a shakeout trip for the current setup, and it did not disapoint! I had a blast cruising around in 2wd, 4wdHi, and once in 4wdLow. The new lift was a little stiff but after some good bouncing around and one or two (small) jumps it has softened up a little bit.

I take it that it did pretty well in the loose sand?

Looks like a blast. I have wanted to do a beach trip for a long time. My buddy used to ride dirt bikes on Pismo all the time.

@Chris, it is located basically between Monterey and LA.

I didn't even know that area was there - I drive by Pismo all the time when I go up to San Simeon and beyond!
Going to have to check it out next time I get up that way.

Do the trail flags have to be a certain height above the vehicle? or what is the standard?
I see some that are like 5ft, then I see some that are 8ft...i'de like to get a flag kit.

This was at Oceano Dunes SVRA in California, near Pismo Beach.
My jeep did great out there - no lockers, 3.73 gears were a little weak for 33" tires but overall I was very pleased.

They sell all kinds of flags - and depending on your mounting location it could be higher/lower.
I've always used an approx 7 foot flag attached to my bumper, but this new one is 5 foot attached to the top of my tire carrier.

Quadratec one of "what"? the flag or the bumper? Answer is neither.
The flag is from Amazon (link above) and the bumper is a Smittybilt with tire carrier.
The old flag I have used before was 7 or 8 feet long, and has a picure of a mug of beer on it! :emoji_beer:

Haha, I meant the actual flag mount. I was looking into that one and was hoping I could get someone to vouch for it. I'm sure its fine.

Oh gotcha! well, so I have the Teraflex CB/Flag mount on both corners. These mount behind the taillight and stick out to the left or right on either side. I have my CB antenna on the left and my dual-band Ham antenna on the right.

For the flag mount - i used a metal bracket that I had in my garage. I believe it was part of a muffler hanger kit? It is bent into an "L" shape and has one big 3/4 inch hole at the top and several small 1/4" holes on the bottom. I used self-tapping screws to attach this bracket to the top post of the tire carrier, and the Flag mast has a quick-release mounted to that bracket.
