Agreed-Seller didn't first state what year it was out of and I didn't pay attention to the ratio # so I was only trying to figure out if it was the "OR". After I started the thread I got clarification it was from an 07. ThanksGoogle installing a JK transfer case in a TJ. I bet you'll find it's not worth it. By the time your done you would have been better off buying an Atlas
Both my 05 and 06 LJ Rubicon’s also have the 241J with 4:1 low. My first Rubicon was an early 03 and it had the 241OR case. Same cases just different tags.Mine is a 241J with 4-1.

I think you are saying the model is not OR but all Rubicon models did come with the 4-1 ratio? And just an FYI, not all TJ Rubicons came with the 241OR transfer case.
Isn't that a 42RLE specific modification? As in the Rubicrawler replaces the tailshaft housing on that transmission and no others?A 231 with a rubicrawler would have a few advantages. Easier packaging and 3 choices of ratio.

As another aside, yes, all TJ Rubicons did come with the 241OR. Unless some unhappy owner swapped it out for whatever reason. I'd also love to hear the source of that tidbit of misinformation. And just an FYI, not all TJ Rubicons came with the 241OR transfer case.
There is a pic of one a few posts up that is a 241J with the 4-1 ratio. They may refer to it as a 241OR but it doesn't say that on all the tags.As another aside, yes, all TJ Rubicons did come with the 241OR. Unless some unhappy owner swapped it out for whatever reason.
All JKs have either a 241 TC or, in the case of Rubicons, 241OR.
The OP has a 2002 so not an option, not that it matters anyway since he has a manual 5 speed. It is 42RLE specific.
I'm not entirely certain. I know all the Rubicon versions I have been around have the 4-1 case. What the tag says is not something I've paid attention to.So the only difference between 241-J 4:1 & 241-OR 4:1 is the -J & -OR on the tag, it seems. I stand corrected.
Not sure if this answers your question but seems like there are some differences. Also talks about the rubicrawler. To Technical for me but thought others here might enjoy. So the only difference between 241-J 4:1 & 241-OR 4:1 is the -J & -OR on the tag, it seems. I stand corrected.
Ownership has changed a few times. Each owner made a change. Now I'm curious as to when and why the change in designation on the label.
I meant why the different 241 transfer case labels on TJ Rubicon models specifically, if it's supposed to be the same transfer case.Ownership has changed a few times. Each owner made a change.

and there was a third name in there too.
The 241 has been around since the 1990s? with the 2.72 ratio, they just regeared it for the Rubicon. If you go to GrimmJeeper ratio calculator you will see how many 241 choices there are.
