New 4.0 block has different A/C mounts

I recently had something happen in the bottom end of my 4.0 in my 2002 Sahara. Decided that at the price point it would be better to buy a long block da34 but when it got to the shop it was the wrong engine. The ac compressor mount is missing and some other mounts are different. The da34 should go with the vin s engines in 2002 but its different than whats in the jeep currently. Anyone have any clue whats wrong? Just bought the jeep a few months ago from a family friend for a pretty good price and i just want to get the thing running again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are differences in the blocks over the years, so you clearly got the wrong block for your year of TJ.

I don't know all the fine details, but someone more knowledgeable like @mrblaine likely knows the differences on the 4.0 blocks over the years.

I know for instance that a 4.0 block in a XJ is different than the one in the TJ. Yes, it can still work, but things are mounted in different locations (i.e. A/C), so the brackets aren't going to be the same.

Hopefully someone more knowledgable chimes in. Sounds like you definitely have the wrong block though, and will need the brackets for that particular block.

I believe the TJ 97-99 is one generation and then 2000-06 is the other. Main differences are the water pump hole in the front of the block is different, the AC swapped sides from the right side upper mounting position to left side lower mounting position, and they went from a manual tensioner using the power steering pump pulley to a auto tensioner over on the right side. The coil rail mounting is not on the block so that doesn't matter although you would want to match up the head to the year of block.
