Just bought 2006 LJ for sons 21st birthday. Needs a top. Wife thinks hardtops have better visibility. Whose hardtop fits the best , no leaks etc. Like the looks/features of Rally tops 2 piece.

Honestly you’re not going to get a better fit than OEM. No matter what aftermarket brand, I’ve always heard a gripe. Whether it be paint fade, bad figment, or leaky seals. The other thing you have to consider is if a window breaks, will the manufacturer of said top be able to replace it.
If I were to trust and aftermarket brand for a hardtop it would probably be Bestop.
Aftermarket LJ tops are hard to come by too.

Hi. Was thinking aftermarket because finding a used LJ top on CL in short time frame seems unlikely. Home is Seattle area. Son is in college near Frisco. Will be driving it down in 2-3 weeks to surprise him.

My LJ came with a RallyTop 1 piece. It had a couple small leaks at the rear window/tailgate seal and near the front top corner of the doors. I got the tailgate leak fixed and he doors better but not completely leak free. I took it off after 8 months of getting it to put a soft top on. After removing it seemed like the foam seal that was used wasn’t very good. Torn and really smashed near the door leaks. I figure if I ever put it back on I’ll get thicker/better quality seals. Mine came with the sliding side windows and headliner which was nice. I don’t think I’d like the 2 piece one myself just because of the possibility of more leaks. Since it came with my Jeep, I have no problems with it. If I didn’t have one at all and was looking, I’d look for a factory one. They have the wiper and defrost where as most, if not all, aftermarket ones don’t as far as I know. A new after market one will cost as much as a used LJ top.
One thing to consider about the factory top, if you jeep didn’t come with one, you won’t have the wiring for the wiper/washer/defrost. You can install it though, if you’re up for that task. There is a 2 part guide on it in the how-to section here.
