Hey all! I'm new here and recently started my quest to find a TJ. This will be my second Wrangler (my first was a 2010 Rubicon) - but i'm still by far a noob... I'm hoping for some input on a Jeep for sale listed in AZ and looks like the only other state it has spent most of it's time in was CA.

2002 Wrangler X
4.0 v6
141k miles
Manual transmission

This is a long distance negotiation for me so i will have to ask for better/more frame pictures. What do you guys think?

Right now the price is at $8,000+tax,title,etc...

It looks like something might be leaking underneath not sure.

Can we see some photos of the frame rails? Particularly where the control arm brackets attach and where the transfer case skid plate attaches? The more frame photos the better.

Yes I will ask for more, unfortunately this is all they sent when I originally asked and it wasn’t really what I had hoped for...I guess I will have to be more specific.

Yes, those pictures don't really tell us much unfortunately.

From what I can see, it just looks dirty. However, those areas I mentioned above are the areas that are the most commonly rusted areas on TJs, so pictures of those areas would help tremendously.

It looks fine in the rest of the photos, but usually that's how it goes. It's the frame that ends up being the number one thing to look for on these used TJs.

in the third photo it looks pretty clear that the frame has been painted. Not necessarily a bad thing, could have just been someone that did their research and decided to preserve their frame that was already in good condition. On the darker side it could be an effort to hide something. Only one way to find out & that's taking a look at it in person. More pictures of the frame would be helpful but not dispositive.

I noticed that as well, easy to spot it in the wheel well area.

Not sure what you mean the vin checked out with having the v6

Just got it...inline vs V that was my own ignorance :). Like I said still plenty to learn

👍

Frame looks good from what I can see. It has a Dana 35 rear end. A rear main leak. Tuffy center console. And faded flares. I'd try and haggle just a bit more. Maybe 8 out the door

Likely oil from the rear main seal. A TJ trademark just like an old Harley.

lol. This makes me feel better about the TJ I purchased recently. My mechanic had noticed this, but didn't know it was a "feature." He did tell me it was nothing to worry about.

a few more pictures trickled in today...not exactly the view i was hoping for but i think the frame looks pretty good.

98
4.0
180k miles
asking $6,500

looks like it has several things going on, i see cracked windshield, the guy told me the power steering pump leaks, i'm sure the rear main leaks...these are the photos i have of the underside. Frame is much worse than the one i'm eyeballing in arizona.

Seats in the first one appear to be an “Apex” edition , or came out of one .

Nope. The first one would get my money, even though I’m partial to green. The silver one just looks like a daily driver with years on it. The green one has been used.
