I hate to say it but the day has come. I haven’t been able to drive the Lj all summer due to issues I have been having with my hearing. It’s just too loud no matter what I do. I made the decision over the weekend after talking to the wife, it’s time to let someone actually enjoy the tithing instead of sitting in the garage tormenting me. It’s listed in the for sale area. If anyone is looking for a clean Lj. 😢

That sucks! Hope you find a good home. I remember reading through your paint job and rust fix and how thorough you were. Good luck with the sale.

When I was doing the paint job my wife asked me if I was nuts because of the time and detail I was putting into the Jeep. My answer to her was I’m doing this thing like this because one day your will burry me in this thing so it needs to last. At that point I never would have guessed this thing would not be in my garage ever.

Dang brah! Sorry to hear this. Whoever buys it will have one heck of a nice rig. What are you going to replace it with?

I don’t know. I would like to have something to play with, I went and drove a new JLUR last week with a hard top. It was still pretty loud to me on the expressway, we are still trying to make the Ouray trip in two weeks but we won’t be driving the Lj. I’m going to trailer it out there and hopefully be able to trailer it to a few trails. I am renting a new JL when we are there for the day to try to get some seat time in it on the road to see how it is. Probably going to sell the Harley next, even with the stock pipes back on it I can’t get within ten feet of it while it’s running even with ear plugs in.

Just out of curiosity have you tried in-ear electronic hearing protection?

Sorry to hear of your hearing issues. You have certainly established a good pedigree for your Jeep. Hope you get what you are asking.

The whole tube has been done in dyna Matt. It actually made it somewhat worse fore me, it’s more the frequency of the noise than the actual noise level itself.
Did you try some Bose noise cancelling headphones. I roll with a pair on long trips. I have tinnitus badly and these help me. They work by deadening frequencies.

Yes. I have just replaced the tires with K02’s. It’s just the overall noise associated with the Jeep.

Well, that covers the obvious one, but what about lesser sources like engine mounts, exhaust, etc.? I'm of the opinion that most noises can be tamed if you can identify the source.

It’s just the overall noise of the Jeep. I have a 2017 F-150 and I need to wear ear plugs in it when I am on the expressway, my wife has a brand new Grand Cherokee and I can’t drive in that because of the frequency of the way the road noise resonates inside the cabin.

Wonder if a hard top would lesson the frequency?

I honestly kicked the idea around, but when I add up what I have actually spent on this thing over the last year or so I’m already well north of 20K. I will never get close to getting out what I have in this thing. Adding another $1500.00 and then the cost of painting the hard top because it would drive me nuts if it wasn’t perfect just adds to the pile of cash I have in this thing. I started doing the sound mat, then the new tires, then the third new exhaust, and I started having flashbacks to when I was trying to fix the vibration and it was just one part after another. I just can’t bring myself to go further down that road.

It sounds like you're describing anything with truck tires at highway speeds. I'd be surprised if the newer Wranglers treat you any better.

Not necessarily tire noise. The F-150 has wind noise around the tops of the doors, it never bothered me until my hearing issues started, now it’s amplified. The wife’s Grand Cherokee is the exhaust drone at around 45-50. It’s certain frequencies that bug me.
