Forgive the faux-pas, but there are a lot of knowledgeable posts on this board and I the one LJ board I know of is pretty quiet.

Aside from the merits (or lack thereof) of the Trak-Lok, did all LJ's in '05 & '06 come with one? I've been using the Jeep site to look up installed equipment on several LJ's i've been considering and each one has the limited slip.

Just curious I guess. If I were installing one, I'd go with a different device but it just seems like an odd coincidence.

Being as though the LJ is a made up name (never officially recognized by Jeep if I understand correctly), that would make sense!

But yes, all 2004-2006 LJs came with a Dana 44 rear axle with 3.73 gears and Trac-Lok limited slip differential. At least that is what I've read about it.

Okay, okay, @Chris. The "Jeep Wrangler Unlimited LWB ", how's that? ;)

I knew they all had the Dana 44, I didn't know that the gears were 3.73's either, but I noticed that commonality, too. Thanks!

No problem at all! And I didn't mean to come off as stand-offish. I just meant to suggest that many people who buy LJs don't even know that people refer to them as LJs, so when they go looking on the internet, they are probably still looking for TJs!

You know what I mean!

I know this old, but...
Two things.
Did anyone ever confirm that all non-rubicon LJs have the Trac-Lok?
And as for as the LJ name not being official, then why is LJ stamped on the tag mounted to the front cross member.

LJ is stamped on a steel tag that is on my Jeep. Nobody just made up the name.

Well, technically it's not on my Jeep anymore but you get the idea.

The tag stamp has been discussed a few times in the past. If I recall, TJ/LJ isn't used consistently in that location for it to be meaningful in the way we want it to be. And Jeep themselves don't know what LJ means. Though there are later instances where Jeep might have used the letter code years after the TJ had ended production.

That tag is interesting, though.

I'm not suggesting that it is some official designation. On TJs the tag often says TJ and in the exact same location on LJs the tag says LJ so that's why people call it an LJ. I have no doubt there are exceptions but it wasn't just pulled out of a hat, it was put there by Jeep, people saw it and called it an LJ.

Take a picture of the entire tag, both of my “LJ’s” have both the “LJ” and “TJ” designation on that tag
I'm a bit confused, do you thing somebody made up the name LJ and then said look here on this tag, it says LJ?
I guess call it what you want, blow pig for all I care.

I want to believe that one department decided the long Jeep's letter code would be LJ, but the idea and implementation got lost in the bureaucracy, so we got this confusing artifact that still ended up being used colloquially. That would be a charming bit of history.

I think Vinman just wants to see if your tag looks like his with both the TJ and the LJ stampings because some may be different.

I'd like to see both on anyone's tag.

And I can't resist saying the tag in your picture isn't on your Jeep. :p

Edit: I guess I didn't need to ad that last line if I had read your whole post.
