I purchased a can of the MOPAR factory-matched spray paint for some spots that are a bit rough. Does anyone have any tips or best practices when using this?

Clean . You want no wax or contaminants on the vehicle . Dawn and hot water , rinse , dry , then use alcohol.

Dry. Everything needs to be bone dry.

Prep. Lightly sand with 320 grit dry .

Prime if bare metal .

Clean with a tack rag .

Mask off the area .

Practice pattern on cardboard

Paint

Allow to dry properly

Remove tape , etc

I sprayed a bit into the cap and lightly dabbed the liquid with a small paintbrush. Got a lot of nicks painted in.
For touch up , body shop suppliers usually sell a plastic toothpick like straw with a fuzzed end ..it is very good for control .

Always use the alcohol , even for touch up

A little clear over touch up makes it last longer ... typically touch up is single stage enamel or lacquer (think fingernail paint), so clear seals it . It's sold in touch up sizes also.

Andy,
Up here in the north we call those things Q-tips sold at literally most places that sell anything. Even at your 7-11 or WAWA whatever is in your area. :ROFLMAO: Even though I'm sure you can probably go to a paint store and buy pretty much exact same thing labeled differently or 10x the price.,

Now that was a joke so lets not get panties bunched up. But when I was young my uncle did body work and whenever I was around body shops I seen Q-tips and thought god body guys are religious on clean ears. But actually besides that and getting all the different colors out of there noses(not as much mask/respirator wearing back then) I learned that a Q-tip works wonders on a lot of things and 1 being touching up paint nicks. Holds the paint good, dabs paint easily, just easier all around. Also does wonders getting that touch of grease/lube needed on that tight spot without getting it everywhere when fat fingers don't allow.

I saw a trick on YouTube, a guy filled a key scratch with a duplicolor paint pen and squeegeed it with a razor blade. Seems like a good idea.
