Rolled my Jeep: Do I Keep or Salvage?

Hi Guys,

Recently rolled my Jeep on its roof. Insurance has determined it to be a total loss. However, I am not sure if I can part with my Jeep and thinking about buying back from the insurance (~$3,900) to keep and rebuild. So with that said, I wanted to get some input on whether or not y'all think my Jeep is worth rebuilding. Pics attached.

Specs:

2005 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon
79,000 Miles
Automatic Transmission
Engine runs
New Tires
Airbags did not deploy
Roll happened at a speed of less than 5mph
Mostly cosmetic damage I believe
Back right of the tub is bent
Tailgate is bent

Based on the mileage, the low speed of the flip and that you are in Texas which lessens the chance of big bad rust, I wouldn't even be asking what to do.

I'd buy it back in a minute and sell it to the guy posting this answer for a $100 profit then pay to have it shipped to him.

How much is your buy out? From the looks of it, you'll need a new fender, hood, door, windshield frame, and top.

If it was mine I would likely just fix it since it doesn't look too bad.

Worse case the axles are worth about 3k, transfer case 1,300, full doors 400ish each, 1k+ for engine/transmission etc.... Depending on the buy out it could be worth keeping purely to part out.

BUY IT..... You could turn around and sell it for more than that easy if you choose down the line to not fix it.

I'd buy it back and replace whatever is broken. It doesn't look too bad to me.

Buy it back, this is a great excuse to upgrade things such as highline fenders. How much $$$ would you be left with after buy back?

Why would they total it? Is the frame damaged? I don't see catastrophic damage.

New windshield frame, hood, fender, inner fender, hardtop and maybe a few other bits. I'm thinking you'd have to put 4k into it (with paint) to get it where it looks like new.

I'd probably rebuild it personally. Though it will have a salvage title, which will make resale damn near impossible.

I’d rebuild as well. Salvage title isn’t that hard I’ve done two already.

Just think now you won’t be too worried about scratches and dings when wheeling. And you can go with liability insurance.

I wouldn’t even worry about the hood. Like previously said some new front fenders, passenger door, and a soft top, and a windshield frame you’re on the road. You could even go with a black windshield frame until you’re ready ($$) to get it painted.

I’d buy it back in a heartbeat, and I’ll tell you why.

1. It’s a low buyback price when you consider that it’s a rubicon which makes it instantly more desirable, especially with relatively low miles in this case.

2. It will almost certainly cost more to start with a different Jeep and build it from there.

3. If you have an emotional attachment to this Jeep like most people on this forum you will regret not buying it back.

4. This is a great chance to upgrade your Jeep. For example, now you can get those tube fenders you’ve always wanted (if you’re into that of course).

5. After you have bought it back and built it, you can sell it for relatively good money. The issue with selling it is that it will have a salvage title, and that might scare away some potential buyers.

I’d buy it back if it was mine, but in the end it’s your decision. I wish you luck, no matter what route you choose.

Since I have never bought collision coverage I'm out of this question, no matter what happens I still own it.

New windshield for sure but just pound out everything else.
It is screaming for a highline.

What are my options when it comes to finding replacement body parts? (Windshield Fram, Hood, Fender, etc.) DaveysJeeps has several of the body pieces in Kahki that I would need but apparently they won't ship them to me, per their email response. I'm gonna jump on the phone with them tomorrow.

I'm sorry to hear that they "might" not ship to you. Hopefully your phone call will get things worked out.

If not, part of me hopes you find something closer to you.

The other part of me wonders if I could somehow ship the parts you buy from them to you since I live about 1/2 hour from them. I admit I have no idea how to do that but I ain't afraid to learn how. What the heck, people on eBay ship anything from anywhere to anyone anywhere every damn day.
