Has anyone modded a rear bumper for storage?

The rear bumper, if closed off in the back, with some sort of hinged cover could make a great place for storage. I could see a breaker bar, some sockets, tire repair kits and some other small items fitting in there. To give you an idea of what I'm talking about, here's my bumper, with the yellow area showing where it could be hinged and opened.

Perhaps it would be possible to fashion a closing/locking end cap since its a hollow tube anyways, similar to what is on travel trailers.

Open the rear door to get to the bumper door

I added a ton of storage to my swing out via a shelf to hold fluids, a tube for the tire iron, and a box for the air compressor. I like the idea of adding storage in the rear bumper - it's not a full tube though, is it?

The back side is open, more like a "C" channel but it would be easy to close in a section.

No, it's open in the back. It'd have to be sealed off.

When I'm looking at the rear bumper, I consider the part I can't see, to be the back, and what I'm looking at to be the front, but whatever.
