Probably bringing back an old one but curious what the thoughts are on the plastic rear inner fender. Debating removing and coating the body or doing the weld in style like Go Rhino used to make.

I still use mine. I remove them every fall before I send my TJ & LJ in for rustproofing. I then put them back in for the winter. To make things easier, I attach mine with SS sheet metal screws in the general vicinity of the original fasteners and nutserts. I also cut off the 2 rubber pointed pins at the top of each liner (the ones you push through the body). I then drilled holes through the liners and now use 5/16" SS bolts & nuts to fasten them.
Do both, clean and paint the inside wheel wells with an extra layer of implement or epoxy paint, and reinstall the plastic liner. DO NOT use any kind of undercoating spray! That plastic keeps alot of crap from accumulating directly on the metal. It's why the unlined front fenders always rot out.

I took mine out, but being in the deep South I don't really have any concern with rust.
I removed mine and put a spray on truck bed liner in the well. So much dirt and grime was built up between the liner and actual fender I didnt think it served a purpose and if it was doing anything it was negative. Haven't had a problem.
I'm not sure when it started but at some time the factory started installing the the fuel evaporative system (EVAP) behind the left rear tire which makes the inner fender pretty much needed, if not in mud, at least in the salt and sludge.

I took mine out and then ended up putting them back in. I dont have carpet so it was really noisy without them. Driving in the rain sounded like going through a car wash. Other than that I didnt notice any difference.
I removed mine. It was a lot nosier without them, but I made up for it with the Noico sound dampening material.

If I had carpet I would probably put some Noico down but I dont think it would look right without the carpet.
I didnt notice any noise difference aside from the occasional loose pebble getting shot up into the wheelwell.

Mine have been gone for many years. Except for the occasional rock, I could never tell a difference without. Cleaning out the crevices is much easier. And I doubt the fender liners will fit after a shock outboard.
Agree with @jjvw. It is very difficult if not impossble to keep them after a rear shock outboard. I like the cleaner look with them and I am not sure what will happen in 05-06 Jeeps if you remove them given the location of the EVAP system. I will ask Dave when I talk to him next time ..
Not without cutting the plastic away from where the new upper mount needs to be. At that point, what's the point?
Mine are out(have been for a year) no ill effects regarding the EVAP canister so far. 06 LJ
The evap stuff is there on my 2003. No problems being exposed that I'm aware of. I've been shoving a pressure washer up into the corners for years too.
I’m considering this as it’s always a pita to get the mud that inevitably finds it’s way in there. I have a 04, do you Colorado guys get a lot of mud? Here in MI it’s an unfortunate way of life even in areas that are mostly sand.
The people I know tend to avoid mud whenever we can.
