Blinkers not working on 99 TJ

I have a 99 tj sport I seriously need some help with I recently bought it wrecked it was turned over damage was to front of Jeep mainly hood fenders and roll cage were damaged I have repaired all of that and fixed it to be my daily. I have installed tube style front fenders with 3/4 LED blinkers and yes they are 3 wire. Along with a LED friendly flasher to kill hyper flash. Now enough back story. So two weeks ago my blinkers began to give issues blowing fuses light in the dash would not come on sometimes. After about 2-3 days of this i began to smells wires burning and my blinkers quit I took apart my steering column to find some melted wires behind the multifunction switch plug replaced the switch rewired all of the wires about a foot or so back of course I could not find a plug I found a kit and ordered it but it was useless plug is not anything like mine so I have Installed spades on the wires and with the help of a diagram from my local dodge dealer wired it in with out the plug now problem is that my blinkers do not work when I hit the switch it triggers my hazards either direction but says in the dash that it’s only the side I have selected. Any help or advice would be amazing this is my daily and it’s been in the garage for two weeks and I definitely do not want to take it to my local dealer and give them a arm and a leg if it is something simple I am looking over thank you in advance

I really can’t make sense out of everything you’ve done. However, the real thing you need to figure out is why the wires were melting in first place.

Reasons that come to mine are a shorted wire, a bad relay, or a fuse that was much too big (for instance a 30 amp in place of a 5 amp).

sorry I am horrible at forums. I’m not really sure why wires melted I want to think it was just a bad multifunction switch along with a oversized fuse. But the problem I am having now that I have went back a rewired and installed the new multifunction switch is that when I cycle the blinkers either direction it turns on the hazards and I forgot to mention this but if I turn on the headlights it turns the hazards off... just any help at all something specific to look for would be amazing I have a lot of hours in this Jeep and it’s my daily driver

Not sure how good you are with schematics, but you can find an electrical schematic in the TJ Resources page on this forum. It should at least get you started.

Definitely this. I’m not trying to be an ass, but if you don’t have DVOM and can’t understand a wiring schematic you should just take it to a professional.

If the wires are melting you are putting too much current through the wire. Either too much load or more likely a dead short. Using a good meter you’ll easily find the problem but have to have a basic understanding of Ohm’s law (P=I/E).

I’m no wiring genius but what I did find was about 6-7 wires behind my instrument cluster melted together I believe the turn switch shorted internally unfortunately I have not been able to finish it yet due to a broke leg but I’ll have it finished soon
