What I'm hearing about ring & pinion quality

Looks like Dana offers some interesting ratios for the Dana 44:

2.94, 3.07, 3.13, 3.21, 3.36, 3.54, 3.73, 3.91, 3.92, 4.09, 4.10, 4.27, 4.30, 4.55, 4.56, 4.88, 4.89, 4.90, 5.13, 5.38, 5.89

Looks like it’s time for some 2.94 gears haha

Look closer, which Dana 44? Are they supporting the 8.9 inch Dana 44 or the 8.5 inch Dana 44?

While Dana does in fact manufacture in the USA with exception to their SVL gear sets, they do not offer that many choices in ratio for the 8.5 inch ring gear Dana 44 (TJ/LJ Dana 44)

Yes. Its big in Ultra 4 racers, although for other reasons as well, some will run portals and some will run under drives.

Ive had Motive, G2, Yukon, Dana, and revolution. They all worked.

Interesting to see though that Spicer offers a 5.38 for the dana 30.

Likely for a JK or JL Dana 30 which uses a different sized ring and pinion.

Yes, 100% of Revolution's gears are made by Circle K in South Korea.

They are great quality and likely made in the US but they don't offer lower ratios like 4.88, 5.13, or 5.38. At least not the last time I saw their offering for our TJ Dana axles.

True, only for the bigger sized Dana 44’s that are found in late 90’s vehicles that used the bigger ring and pinions and Dana 30’s and 44’s found in the JK’s and JL’s.

So this is as of today 2/19/20. Yukon gears are made in China
Motive gear either Korea Italy or China. Excel(lower line of richmond) is India or China,
And Richmond is all Italy

So when I called motive today the guy referred me to Richmond gear saying it was of the highest quality standards currently bc all its richmond (not excel by richmond )is made in Italy and Italy has high standards. I will be going this route for my rear ring and pinion for ford 8.8. I will have to go will motive performance for front dana 30 and hope they good still. I will pass on yukon most likely. I do realize that some complaints stem from people installing incorrectly . Hope this helps with some answers for interested people

I've setup several different set of Yukon gears, and they're great quality! Super easy to setup!

I’ll have to play around with the parts selection. As some of them seem to SVL which is import stuff.

The 5.38s are only available in Standard Cut (pretty sure meaning low pinion only) and 7.130" ring gear diameter. Since that's the smallest diameter ring gear of the three types, I'm going to assume that is for TJs and not JKs. There are a few options available in 7.320" and 7.780" diameter, but nothing as deep

Those 5.38s are for the Dana 30. Dana 44 5.38s are offered in quite a few sizes. The Dana 44 5.89s are only offered in the smaller TJ size.

At least one or two other companies make 5.89s for the TJ Dana 44 front/rear. I haven't seen any other TJ Dana 30 5.38s though (assuming that actually will fit a TJ Dana 30).

I know the Dana 44 has several different size rings; I'm not as familiar with the Dana 30.

Still old stock. The new stuff coming out of China is not that great yet.

Not all spicer/Dana gear sets are made in the USA.
Us gear makes high quality gear sets in the USA.
