You can also do it with the transmission in neutral and rolling a few MPH.

Was it going into 4L before you dropped the skid?

Hahahah 4H is 4wd ok. 4L. No before I lowered the skid plate it didn’t have trouble going into 4L — even in park. It would grind occasionally....I honestly just think my linkage is wreaked and the mounting is finished too and I just need to replace it all

I would agree with you. If you have the $150 or so, a cable linkage is the way to go. If not you could replace the stock linkage. I think I have a couple laying around.

....eh...does anyone know why my lever isn’t wanting to go into 4L and 4H? I don’t want to force it and break something but after I put the linkage back inside that mounting bracket I get it into 4wd and neutral and any higher it won’t go—why?

Any chance the shifter lever on the transfer case and the shift lever on the console were in different range-select positions when you re-connected the linkage? (Not even sure it's possible to reconnect under those circumstances.)

Okay, it's time to clean this thread up.
