Winch & mount on stock bumper

I am thinking about a winch for my '02 TJ
I am not interested in swapping out bumpers, looking to keep my stock bumper in place & mounting the winch onto it. A fella posted in a different thread and posted a photo of his Jeep and it had exactly what I was looking for, so I PM'd him but have not got a response. Do any of you know of a winch / mount combo for a clean & neat install for my application? I dont want or need one of those 12K # or want to spend much over $800-900 for the winch alone. I know the mount would be xtra. I have seen the $ on some of those winches —$1500 to $2K is just not for me

I kinda have the set up you're after. I've got a X2O 8k winch, with synthetic line, on a warn winch plate.

I bought a Warn one about twenty odd years ago but I don't remember paying that much for it LINK

I have a Warn VR8-S, Smittybuilt raised plate (shown above), and a stock bumper. I've been happy with it. Looks like this. Since that pic was taken, I also added some hooks to each side for recovery.

Any generic winch plate will work great (EAG or SB) should be around $60. Winch is what you should not cheap out on.

The Warn M8000 is one of the best for our TJ’s!

I'll be updating my wire rope to synthetic sometime soon but I was concerned about the effects of UV as I read that the harsh Australian sun will considerably shorten its lifespan so I've kept this in mind when recently fitting a mini light bar. The Warn brush bar, light bar and integrated solenoid covers most angles so that pesky old fireball cant get through. Gotta say I'm really happy with how it looks

Smittybuilt flat mount I think...came of a XRC bumper one of my sons had...really clean factory look

Get a smittybuilt Gen3 9.5 a Superwinch or a Rugged Ridge winch with synthetic rope...they do not break the bank and are reliable...they may not be as fast or look as pretty but they will get the job done the 3 or 4 times you use it

Rough country winch plate on a stock bumper. IIRC the mount was $50. The superwinch LP8500 can be had for $300 (though I recommend a Warn)

When I replace my winch it will be with a Warn but I have been running an Engo with synthetic for about 5 years now and have had zero problems. The Engo is one of the better budget choices on the market.

What would be the reason that your switching to a warn if your happy with the Engo?

The Tomken was always my favorite bolt-on winch mounting plate. It keeps the winch as low as possible and also includes a cool little mini-bullbar to help protect the winch.

When I purchase the Engo I lived in NJ but being in Oregon now it's almost a law to run a Warn here.

It's out of service at the moment as I'm setting up a quick disconnect system to enable me to remove the Winch when I'm not planning to go wheeling for a while, I've already wired in an Anderson plug but working out what to do with the air service line when the winch is removed is proving a little tricky. I'll do a thread about it once it's done.

I have the Tomken mount on my LJ, I welded a piece of square tubing on the back to the winch guard and bolted on some LED lights from whelen, pretty happy with it, the powder coating was crap though.....but it is 13 years old.......
