Does anyone know if the 42RLE TCM stores anything of value that could show what the issue is? My 2004 LJ has the separate TCM.
I think the 42RLE stores the wear parameters of the clutches, it might have data on the condition of the lockup clutch. That's all I can think of. If you can't hear that rattle out the window I think the ignition part is more likely and probably easier to test out. You could just put octane boost or get race gas. That'll change the detonation point.Does anyone know if the 42RLE TCM stores anything of value that could show what the issue is? My 2004 LJ has the separate TCM.
Just throwing this out there but when my cats failed, at times, it sounded like a tin can full of rocks. About the same as detonation.
I’d think both scenarios would eventually do what I encountered which was a misfire CEL.

Just a couple more notes probably worth mentioning. The transmission filter was last changed less than 5k miles ago and the fluid is all brand new (changed during my build and changed again less than 500 miles ago).
Just a basic fluid drop or did it get power flushed?
Catalytic converters are expensive and don't like lead. I'd try to find octane boost that doesn't contain lead.I'm running 91 octane "Premium" and I can get 110 leaded locally. I'll have to look up what issues the lead can cause for short term use.
Can you “feel” the noise in your gas pedal?
Is this a custom tune or canned from the SC kit?
Canned splitsecond box with a 7th injector. From what I understand the tune is conservative and designed for a larger pulley which gives closer to 6lbs of boost. From what I understand the smaller pulley I'm running is safe to use with this tune but leaves power on the table by running too rich. I've been wanting to figure out my issues before getting the tune adjusted.
Edit: The AFR gauge is in the video on the furthest left.
Gotcha. Well if it is tuned to run rich with that pulley and your seeing good AF readings we might be off on knock. Have you spoke to the tuner yet?
BoostedTech has not been helpful.![]()
That sucks. Especially trouble shooting.
I still lean on TC for the vibes you are feeling.
