97 tj sway bar loose??

Hey I have noticed my anti-sway bar gradually moves to the driver side. I can tap it back over to center it so it wont rub on the passenger side, and It keeps moving back. Just wondering what might be causing this to happen. I have read several comments about bushings may need to be changed, and axle not centered.
When I disconnect the anti-sway bar links the sway bar moves up and down very easy so that might be a sign of worn bushings, but i dont know what they are supposed to feel like. Thanks.

Mine was rubbing the frame with the end of the bolt the PO had installed the wrong way when the lift was done. I installed a shaft collar to the inside edges of the bushings until I get a chance to re-orient the bolts. It has kept it centered for over a year. I will probably go with new bushings when I do the bolt swap. This pic is not of my jeep but the pic I got the idea from.

The factory antiswaybar was designed to have side-to-side movement ability. Don't forget that as the axle moves up & down, the axle's track bar causes the axle to move left-right-left. You don't want to restrict the factory antiswaybar with collars like in the above photo, the OE antiswaybar's links don't have the flexibility to move sideways that much and they can (and do) break.

Currie's Antirock antiswaybar is fixed and doesn't move sideways but its links have more flexible heim-joints at the tops & bottoms of its links.

Jerry, if my axle were not centered perfectly, could that be the reason the antisway bar tends to migrate to the passenger side ?? Especially since i do not have an adjustable track bar and a hole was drilled to compensate for it by moving it over 3/4 of an inch.

It could be but the antiswaybar will just tend to stay at the last position it was pulled to by the axle moving up or down.

I found these originally from one of the Jeep part sites for about $24 each. I then went to ebay and found them (1-3/16" shaft collars) for $8 each. For me it was a temporary measure since the PO put a longer bolt in with the long end pointed toward the frame, which caused it to rub on the frame. I don't do any serious articulation in my offroading but if I did I would probably replace the swaybar altogether with something more robust. All that aside, it has solved my original problem of the bolt rubbing the frame.
