Need aftermarket blinkers: What do you guys think of these?

My Jeep has the Metalcloak 'fenders' which for my 99 means no blinkers since factory is in the fenders not grill. The Metalcloak has tiny .75" round blinker which is not noticeable from across a intersection. Now that my fixing to be 16yr old son is driving it part time I'd like to give it better blinkers.

I was wondering what you guys think of these? Do you think they are too big and will look odd (they are 7.5" x 3.3")?I can easily mount them along side the outside edge of the grill basically at the front edge of the metalcloak metal inner fender liner.

I can use these brackets to mount them in....

Is there a "how to" on this conversion (cant find one)? Did you basically just drill the correct size hole in the grill and the jk enclosure just pops in?

That's the gist. 1-1/8" hole then notch 3 slots so the housing will twist into place. Ill try and locate the write up. I think Jerry wrote it a number of years ago

Check that your bumper hoop isn't going to block them.

If I do the JK signals, it looks like my winch and the bar that goes around it will block the view of the turn signal if someone is on the opposite side from the blinking signal. For instance if I was going to turn left but someone was too my right, I dont think they could see it unless they were very far down the road in front of me....but certainly not at a intersection.

Maybe I should mount something to my bumper. I might could even mount the JK blinkers in the top bumper....but the sheet metal is far thicker than the grill, would that hinder the JK enclosures from working right?

Yes it's a 3 1/8" hole for the JK turn signal enclosures.

This is the process I used. The JK enclosures have 3 ribs on the outside of the case so in addition to the 3 1/8" hole you need to notch it at 3 points to allow the enclosure to slide into place.

Then you cut a slot into the plastic ribs at the very front. That way you can lock the enclosure into place by first inserting the enclosure then rotating it slightly which will then firmly lock it into the opening by rotating the plastic ribs so they're to the side of the three small notches you cut into the sheet metal.

You see two different color Jeeps because I did this to both of mine.

I’ve seen where someone made a template you can print out then tape to your grill and mark exact spots. I think I have it saved on my laptop and will check tonight when I get off work.

I guess it would be good if you very particular about precise placement.

If that bumper isn’t something you‘re insistent on keeping, you can get a different, sleeker and less bulky one for relatively cheap. Some come with provisions for a winch already but if not, you could add a winch plate.

Cant spend the money on that right now. I need to just get good functional and very visible blinkers....and not use them as an excuse for a new bumper.....somehow Jeep projects always have a way of growing that way! hahahaha :ROFLMAO:

By the way if you use the above directions.. clock the three notches 10-15 degrees one way or the other. You'll insert the enclosure and its lens clocked slightly off. But then rotate it slightly so its lens pattern is straight which locks the lens into place.

Do you think they would install in the bumper? It's far thicker metal than the grill but I'd much rather put them there because I hate to drill my grill and my winch hides the blinker when looking from the opposite side. Viability will be MUCH better on the bumper.....but the metal thickness concerns me. You think I'd need to notify the blinker enclosures some?
