Got 06 TJ manual. Out of town camping and went to store. Got back in Jeep at store and got Back in Jeep and found out stater not turning over. Bypassed clutch switch. Didn’t work. Rolled off and fired up. Got back to our camper and ran temp wire to starter. Starter turns over and with switch on will not fire up. Now I’m really confused and wondering how it fired up by rolling off but not by starter turning over. Anybody got any ideas?

That’s what I was thinking just had me puzzled as to why could start rolling off but not when sent power straight to starter.

The problem is that there are two levels of contacts in the ignition switch; the primary (start) is not working; but the secondary (run) is working.
Really weird. I ran wire from battery straight to starter. Switch turned to run, clutch in and in neutral when touch wire to battery starter turns over but no fire to coils. But can start Jeep by rolling off. Kinda odd
That would be my first suspicion too. The ignition actuator pin can break and cause that exact problem. I carry one of those as a spare in the back of my Jeep.
