Started to rebuild my nsg370 trying to source a transmission fixture part number Mopar tool 9633. If anyone has one and is Willing to sell it let me know. I found them online 300+ dollars, for a one time use I think it would be better I bought it used.

www.nsg370.com this site is run by High Gear out of Memphis I think or Nashville. They know our NSG and parts (maybe cheaper tools too)

Also Allstate Gear Manual Transmission may have them.

Put an AX-15 in it and never have to worry about it.
That’s a pretty expensive swap for an NSG370. Unlike the NV3550, the NSG370 bellhousing and crankshaft position sensor location does not match the AX-15. So a different bellhousing and other parts are needed.

That and you lose the ideal gear ratios of the 6-speed.

I agree Steel City 06. I've looked, and yes a rebuild is expensive (I have the CC receipt to prove it, ha) but when you spread sheet it out, these swaps aren't all as cheap as described. I don't disagree with the issues around this, I have a parts bucket from an NSG, what makes me crazy, and doesn't invalidate the negative opinions, but I have 2 NSG370's and one of them drives as good or better than any manual I've ever driven in an off road vehicle (no, not as good as a mustang I'm trying to see how fast I can melt tires).

That NSG is not that far behind in miles on my JK, but on the TJ it just shift rougher. My TJ one will come apart again and get all new shifting forks...they were told to do them and didn't, so they get to break it open and do it for free. I'm very curious to know if the forks make a huge difference, because they replaced all synchros and the input shaft last month.

@rraulston is rebuilding his right now, I bet he could tell you where he got his or sell it to you when he's done.
Yeah I know he is, he directed me to a where he bought all the tools. I'll keep looking though someone has to have one they aren't using. Ganna call up some transmission shops we order parts from too see if they have one.

All the fixture does is hold the shafts to make assembly easier. You could very easily build this out of wood....Or you could juggle the shafts and get by...

Honestly, If anyone wants to go in one a fixture, I'm game. I need to rebuild my NSG this winter.

Yeah I was able to finish the rebuild yesterday. Had to improvise when installing both shafts into the case.

You can get away without using it. If you have any questions lmk. Pretty easy transmission rebuild if you have the right tools. If I were you and don't have them i would invest and in a good 3 jaw puller and a the 7 ton otc puller #4532. And a good solid press. My 20 ton press didn't really help I had to take it to a friend who had a 30 ton press to remove some of the pressed on gears.

What all did you replace in the rebuild? All synchros, did you need a new input shaft?

Also, did you replace the shifting forks? Also curious if you have it back in the Jeep yet?

Yeah bearing and seal kit and syncros kit. Input shaft looked fine. The source of many people complaints that the transmission makes noise when clutch is out and goes away when clutch is in is the input shaft bearing. My bearing was shot that's why it was making the same noise iv read in so many forums. My shift fork looked okay. Inspected all the plastic clips. One of the rubber molds where the fork slides back and forth was a bit ripped at the bottom but I haven't had any shifting issues so i wasn't concerned about it. I can see why they are notorious in failing though all the clips the hold it together are plastic. Worst case scenario I got a price for it for the future it was like 150. Would recommend you inspect reverse, first and second gear. Make sure your teeth that engage that gear look good. My reverse looked quite worn but I have yet to have any reverse problems. So I left it as is. I didn't see the need of me dropping another 300 bucks for a gear. That's me though cause worst case scenario I can drop the transmission and replace that gear in a few hours. I'm putting on my transmission today. In parts I spent like $550 and 150 on the rear housing since I cracked it on the drain plug but let's not talk about that. Lol

Awesome. Yeah, the noise rattling in my research is the throw out bearing, I think we are talking the same deal. It’s a clutch issue really, not a trans per se, but I’m splitting hairs.

I rebuilt mine and didn’t put new forks in, regret it’s and they’re here going in on Monday.

Thanks for the tips. I'll be sure to hit you up should I run into a snag. I have the new synchros on the shelf. Jsut need bearing & seal kit. Some people recommend a new shift cage..?

www.nsg370.com has a great video on the components, and he walks through the sifting forks and the pads. He said 9 out of 10 they pull, the plastic form on the ends of two are gone or really off. Those sit down in the sliders, and get very worn especially if you keep your hand on the stick. I have really tried to stop doing that, ha.

You sure it's not the input shaft bearing?? A throw out bearing will make noise when you press down the clutch.

And about the shifter fork assembly... Inspect it. If it looks good then why replace it?? Just make sure to grease it with some assembly grease and all the clips stay in place. I wish they would of designed the fork assembly better, it is what is though. Btw don't listen to people who say the nsg370 is a bad transmission. Like every transmission, it wears after continuous use.

To be fair, no, but I spent a lot of time researching the rattling that happens, when you have clutch out, and goes awah when you press the clutch, or even just rest your foot on the clutch.
This Centerforce Clutch Video the guy shows exactly the throw out bearing noise and explains it.
