Greetings from the Augusta area!

A dozen years have passed since my last Wrangler. It was a green 1998 Sahara. I'm about to pick up this low-miles silver 2001 60th Anniversary Edition...that also says it's the EXTREME edition. Not so sure about that...but there's even a decal inside. It's a bit of a mystery what that means, but I have found 1-2 other 60th Anniversary editions online that reference an Extreme edition too. Anyways, it appears to be stock, so it's a blank slate. First thing to go will be the bumpers...should I go ahead and spring for something that can hold a winch? It'll be a daily driver with possible multi-day dirt road exploration trips around the southeast. Used to be an adventure motorcycle rider, but this seems like something fun I can share with my wife and soon-to-come little one. The hardtop may be for sale in the near future as well.

Hey Neighbor, your right down the street from me. Very nice looking jeep! If it were me, I go ahead and get one that can handle a winch, it would stink to have to purchase twice.

I was searching around a little more and I’m starting to think maybe the extreme edition had the chrome tube bumpers. I’ve seen a few examples, but no documentation so it’s only speculation.

No such thing as a "Extreme Edition". That's just something the dealership (or a previous owner) installed to be different. Again, no such thing, and never existed from the factory.

Just a quick update - got rid of the chrome bumpers! Found a stock set for now...

Still have the chrome steps...they look like they'll be a pain to remove. Need to reinstall the hitch too.

Those steps come off super easy!
