Shelf build and extra storage

I pulled my rear seat out as i wanted more storage space, and decided to build a shelf that helped organize the storage. I took the general idea for the shelf from this guy http://theroadchoseme.com/jeep-tj-storage-box . I knew i wanted it completely contained so it could serve as a lock box when i had the top off. I think next up i'll add some power door locks so i can quickly lock the rear hatch. I didn't see too many pictures when i was looking so i figured i'd add some.

Shelf is 3/4" sanded plywood from Lowe's. It's covered in Auto Custom Carperts 827 gray which was the best match i could find from ACC for the 2005 Khaki interior.

I built the brackets out of 1/8"x 1" wide aluminum strap from lowes. I just bent it in a vice and drilled holes.

I added some stretch netting to secure my first aid kit and an E-tool

I added more stretch net pockets and a cup holder a little higher than the stock one. I had the original one blocked off cause i ran an ARB fridge wiring kit through there to plug in my fridge. The other one is USB outlets in an ARB housing which i had leftover from wiring my truck for the fridge.

I'm gonna start up a build thread, but wanted to post this here in case someone else is looking to build one and wanted pictures without sifting through a build thread.

Looks really good. I like the storage pouches you put on, the ones hidden on the inside are a nice touch. You can never have too many zip ties.

Thanks, I figured that space would be kind of wasted if i didn't figure out how to stick something up in there. Both the netting and the framed pouches are from organizedobie.com. Well, i actually ordered the framed ones from walmart.com cause they were cheaper with free shipping.

At the front of those cubbie nets i used brass screw eyes from home depot. I just screwed them in to the plywood and hooked the net on. I was trying to find some small hooks that i could bend around the net to hook to the aluminum bracket so it looked more professional, but just gave up and zip tied it.

Thanks! The narrow front portion is 46" wide because I had to notch it to clear the roll cage. The rear is 55" full width. It's about 32.5" deep. I've actually added L track since I posted this and got my new ARB fridge mounted.

I just put a similar shelf in my tj, and the track is an amazing idea. I know Mac's makes some track sections, but where did that strap come from? It looks like a perfect size.

I actually couldn't find a strap that I was happy with, so I made them. I don't like straps that form a loop as it requires 2 hands to tighten, one to hold and one to pull the strap. And regular straps with hooks were too long or big. This is what they look like taken off.

And sewed the snap hook in place. I used T70 polyester thread on my girlfriends cheap brother sewing machine. It's really more than a home sewing machine can handle, but I wasn't worried about the looks so much, only that it worked. You could also use a speedy stitcher if you don't have access to a sewing machine. There a bunch of videos on youtube showing how to create a lock stitch with one. Although i'd go with a much heavier thread if you use the hand stitcher.
