You never really know your neighbors

When I told my wife about all this, I mentioned to her that at the risk of sounding like a "homophobe", I would think that two gay males with 14 all-male children in a household would have raised some kind of a red flag with someone. Now, if the children had been a mixture of male and female, then perhaps it wouldn't have stood out so much to me. Maybe just a pink flag would've been raised... ;)

Woke culture. It’s turning on us.

Horrible. As others have said, too many people in the foster system just see the kids as paychecks and neglect those under their “care”. You also would think there would be a numerical limit on how many children one household can foster.

That’s what I thought too. Why is there no limit on the number of kids you can foster? 🙄

My dad and stepmom had foster kids for years. As many as three at a time. Some of the "kids" still refer to my folks as Mom and Dad some 30+ years later, so I know the system can work. Unfortunately, like in everything else, it's the bad apples that get all the press. It's a sad state of affairs...

Wow, unfortunately not surprising. I made the mistake of doing an internship with the police department in my own town during college. I learned about allll the crazy wackos that lived in my small quiet community.

There's a new reservist in my unit, young lady, former Marine (or whatever it is you're supposed to say with them) that went USAFR & works as a cop here locally. Her stories are bonkers, here I am in what I think is my nice little neighborhood... I work in a secure facility where everyone has security clearances up the ass, my little sphere is filled with nice responsible folks who don't usually lock their cars at work. Here comes this young lady with tales of meth dealers, domestic disturbances, robberies, crackheads... Quite the eye opener.

Yeah it’s a bit of a shock to most. I do highly suggest a ride a long with your local agency. Not only do you get to see what they deal with, you get to know them a bit better and it’s a good thing for both sides. I loved taking them, mostly college students but a few older adults. So fun.

How do you do that? Just call & ask?

Yep! Most agencies are very happy to do so! My neighbor has rode with every agency in our area. The Sheriff’s Office, Thr PD’s, the State Police....he enjoyed the sheriff’s the best due to vast range of calls and most distances covered (all county).

I remember after reading @Chris original story about finding out about his new neighbors, I thought about that whole situation but still had a slightly uneasy feeling purely at the thought of two gay guys and 14 kids living together. Just didn't seem right but how can you say that without sounding phobish in any way? It just made me think yea things can work out in different ways and learn you a lesson son.

But no, always trust your gut. My gut is slowly getting larger which makes me think i'm definitely getting smarter. My Dr disagrees with that philosophy but my gut tells me what does he know? 🤣
