Started having this problem with my 2001 wrangler tj. Noticed a idiot light that was a key with a slash. Checked the owners manual and it is a "Sentry Key Immobilizer System" that will shut down the engine to prevent unauthorized operation. I figure it's my 20 year old key causing the problem?

I'm not sure if the transponder in the key goes bad, but I would think it does. This would be my first guess, either this or the SKIM module itself.

so this exact same thing happened to me yesterday out of nowhere. when it happened my engine light came on so i did an OBD2 read and turns out (at least for me) it was my camshaft position sensor needing to be replaced. not sure if that helps anybody, it seems like this issue could be caused by a few different things but that’s what came up for me.
