How bad is it to cut little bit into axel shaft?

Hey guys, I am still trying to get the bearings of the rear axles out, any way I accidently made little mark (little dent and cuts from using the chisel and angle grinder (being very careful cutting with it I promise).
does that mean the shaft needs to be replace, I hope not :(

Make sure to file or sand it smooth before you try to press on the new bearing. You always want to have a smooth surface when pressing any bearing on or off. Any little nicks or gauges that stick up at the edges, even a fraction of a thousandth of an inch, can cause trouble.

if you ever cut another try going at a 45* angle across it go 97% deep into it and then pop it with your chisel, you'll never touch the shaft.

you can also cut the other way. disk parallel to the shaft and cut toward the bearing as close to the shaft as you can and then crack the thin strip that's left.......... works good for stuck pitmans too.

I drill the shaft collar with a sharp 5/16" bit and hit the narrow bits with a good cold chisel. Snaps them right in half. Then take the same chisel and tap the collar onto the shaft. Very easy.
