How bad is it to cut little bit into axel shaft?

b) Good/great advice flows like water on forums AFTER you screw up.
C) My shaft has more and bigger defects than yours and it still works.

Yup. That is exactly what I mean. That is a really minor nick. If you were pushing that axle to 10/10ths then it might break there...but probably at the splines.

By and large, folks are good at 1 thing. They either make good videos or they are good mechanics. I've yet to see both.

this is Sooooo true. I have found some good information for VW's at least on youtube, but it's normally some older guy with a camera pointed occasionally at the thing he's talking about (though most of the time just randomly somewhere) and the lowest production quality/ worst video quality ever. This being said that old duffer has got some seriously useful knowledge if you're willing to sit around and listen.
