What did you do to your TJ today?

The flip side when offroading is... I've had branches, tree roots on the side of a deep cut trail, and other large objects pressed 2-3 inches into my soft top sides, would have busted the glass 100% but my soft top didn't even get a scratch. I've actually gone through a bunch of branches and thorns many many times here in the PNW, without tearing or even really scratching my Besttop soft top. I'm sure it can happen, but good ones are tougher than you'd think :)
Yes...don't run a
Hardtop off road if you want to keep it nice.

I am always late for good advice. I had a pristine HT on my sahara. We gouged it in a few places when we "kissed" a canyon wall (going down Odessa). The sound it makes is awful. I imagine the glass breaking would be even better. I just put a soft top on due to this reason. The new bestop is quiet and no floppy like my CJ. So far so good, no trails yet but runs to the steel yard and the hardware store have shown good results.

We had one member on a trail and a guy slid down a hill in a pickup truck and clipped the corner on his top. basically a soft top is more forgiving and it's even a good idea just to buy one in pretty used condition for off-road.... Or have a second set of windows

YES! That is how we roll in Kali. We convoy to places like Calico, air down and drive 3/4 mile off the road and talk about how cool we are. It's a blast.
I have been to Calico twice! First time we just thought the ghost town was abandoned and spent an hour walking around! Second time we noticed a front entrance? lol First time it was actually closed and we walked in the side entrance :) Do you go wheeling off ZZYX Road.

Swapped out my old headlights for some new LED’s. I’ll take a better picture tonight once the sun goes down. New front bumper LED fog lights coming within the next couple weeks and some grill overlay backlighting coming soon

Nothing exciting it was pissing down with rain all day and a 90 Degree steam bath day but had an hour or so to check some bushings all seem good Zirks had remnants of oozing grease but will grease next weekend, confirmed I have 4 02,s as apparently some later exports only have 2? and fitted some Rugged Ridge entry guards

I got the same ones a few months ago. Huge fan of them

Now that’s it’s night time it’s much easier to see the difference. Also enjoy my Christmas lights around my light bar and my wreath... tis the season 🎄

I threw on my new Warn Stealth cover for the M8274. I don't like the thought of the sand/salt/winter road grime getting kicked up onto the winch. Even though I didn't clean up the winch as much as I wanted to before installing it, I know the next few months won't be kind to it so this will save me a bunch of effort in the spring when I try to finish it up. I'm not thrilled with how it goes on.... One of the straps doesn't really have anything to go around, so the fit isn't great, but it's better than the original 1978 cover the winch came with.

Yesterday I dropped the fuel tank and cleaned it and put a new Bosch fuel pump module in.
Then I put a new oil pressure sending unit
Then I bolted a set of flat rear fenders on.
then I fixed my rear control arms where somebody had basically fence hardware bolts holding everything together.
WHOLE NEW JEEP!!!!

Im replacing the u joints and cv joint in my front drive shaft. The kit came with a replacement boot but the old one seems to be on pretty good. Does it snap on? I don’t want to start aggressively pulling on it without knowing how it comes on and off

Let's see....

PLOWED a doe on the way to Hot Springs ORV, left some hair on the winch knocked out a side marker light, drover over her with both axles. But otherwise no damage.

Earned the 3 badges at the park, plus a bunch of other trails. That place is fantastic, highly recommended. Big Juicy only needed to be winched in one spot, and that was only because I couldn't get on the right line and rigs were stacking up behind us.

Also had a weird knock on the way back after our first day. Thought it was a u-joint or possibly a wheel bearing, but turned out to be one of my wheel spacers had come loose. You may recall this was my #1 concern about spacers, and it came to pass. The driver's side front wheel was very close to coming off. Re-torqued them all and had no problems the next day.

Beyond that, the old girl did great, fantastic even when you consider what she was when I bought her just a little bit ago. No leaks, temp was just shy of 210 the entire way, no shakes on the long drive there. All the other rigs in our group had some sort of trouble with sensors or overheating or shifting.......or just not being able to make it up some climbs.

My JKU had been parked at the cabin after Thanksgiving, so I planned to leave the TJ there and drive the JK home. But I had pretty much "pure" distilled water as I have been slowly flushing the coolant system. Temps are going to be in the 20's overnight for the next week, so I drained the radiator and replaced with a gallon of concentrated G05 and ran it for a good while to hopefully get it all circulated. What I drained was still pretty nasty looking, and I really didn't want to add anti-freeze until I was satisfied that things were flushed out, but I also figured the $17 was better than dealing with freeze plugs or whatever else might result.

Here she is going down the first big hill with several big steps to negotiate. And I took a bad line at the very end which made it harder than it needed to be. I am by no means "good" at any of this. But we get out there and do it just the same.

I live less then 5 miles from this park but have never been to it since it was turned into a ORV park... back in the 80’s it was just Weyerhauser roads and I was a rookie patrol officer for the sheriffs department... I used to drives those roads looking for stolen vehicles... Beautiful area!

 I got chills when I read this. When I read the word "knock" when talking about cars I think about very, very bad things.

What you heard was a "clunk." 😆
Aaah, my bad. I'll update the jeep noise dictionary. 😛

I used the red locktite that came with the spacers, and The fronts sat for a good 24 hrs before I drove on them. The rears basically sat for an hour before I drove it 2 hrs, those were still tight (although not hella tight) when I checked them later. Of course later included about 6 hr drive to the park and a good 7 hrs of wheeling. When I go back up there I'll re-check them again, and if they are the tiniest bit loose, I guess I'm going to have to use name brand lock tite instead of whatever homebrew they sent me with the spacers.
