PNW Wheeling

Yes after being stationed in a lot of other places and gotten the chance to wheel in a lot of them I really enjoy the challenges it adds to our wheeling. Getting to run trails dry and then turn around a week later and run them wet is great for learning when and how traction works. Then when it snows that just adds to the whole fun factor. I LOVE rock crawling and like going to places where I can do it but like coming back here.
Wait when do you get to run trails dry?? What are you one of them eastsiders??

You can add pumice dust to the list. I am still washing it off after this summers trips.

I think people have a different thought on what mud wheeling in the PNW is all about. It’s not just a mud hole to drive through. Here It’s a trail system on mountain hills with mud. Ya can’t avoid it in most places around here at any time of the year.
I’ll look for some pics when I have time.
Wildman will probably attest to Liberty wheeling in the summer is real pretty but kind of boring, but come September/October, totally different/ hard as hell and fun as fuck

While I may have been as @B00mb00m called it an Eastsider, I am aware of the trails on the wetter side. Most of you would feel right at home up here other than it is not as tight and twisty.

Yes Liberty is tough in May and late in the year when it's wet again. Almost had 2 of our club members killed up there in 2018. They were almost to the top of a hill when their YJ bounced and the rear u-joint strap broke and it rolled multiple time back down the hill.

My Jeep broke down here so this was as far as I got in it this trip to Liberty.

And then in July when it's dry....

I haven’t been to any of the trails past Mt. Rainer. This is on my list once summer is here. Gotta play Army during winter/spring.

Thanks for these photos! Makes me nostalgic for the PNW, and that is something I haven't said too often, but the PNW wins hands down in the natural beauty contest in my opinion.

I mentioned to you before, but I grew up in Puyallup. My jeep came from Vancouver, WA where my folks were living at the time (I was in NYC by that time). I wheeled this jeep in its form at the time in Tilamook forest west of Portland.

I am ok with a little mud, even though it is a royal PITA to clean off, but I really hate deep water crossings, especially muddy ones. A couple months back I changed my diff oil after a dozen 30+ water crossings and it was murky sheet.

I've got some pictures of wheeling at Tilamook too. I've only been down there maybe 5 times over the years but I look forward to going again.

Dude, that 86-89 t4r was DOPE! Did you SAS and link the minivan looking fj also?

Thanks!

Yes it was an ‘86 so SAS with a cut down GM Dana 44. Had dual tcase and 4.7 gears in the rear box. 5.38’s, ARB’s, full 8 point cage and it flat out WORKED. I regret selling it.

The FJ80 was on a full 6” Slee off-road sitting on 37’s. It worked damn good for a huge and heavy rig, my wife’s daily for years.

Oh jeez, don’t tell me I’m getting the humor of the interior Alaska locals.
Do you describe distance in miles or time?
Do you refer to leaving state as "Going outside"?
Have you worn XtraTuffs to formal events?
Have you argued with companies that Alaska is part of the "Continental US"?
Have you been called a Cheechako?

1) Both
2) Yes
3) Yes
4) Yes
5) Once or twice.

But I'm an outsider again now.
