Looking for feedback and opinions on wheels and tires for my TJ

Thanks Dave, that helps. I pretty much have it down to two sizes now, both 15 inch rims but looking at the
KO2 in 31's like yours at $175 each or 32x11.5 at $217 each at tire rack with free road hazard. Staying clear on the 33's

Why the negative feelings on the 16" wheels?

I think it's strictly due to the lack of tire choice. It's become less and less over the years and may go away as far as our vehicles go one day. I run 16" MOAB wheels on my TJ, LJ and XJ. I have Goodyear Duratracs Load Rated "C" tires on each one and they're good for the type of driving I do. If and when they're no longer available I'll switch to 15" rims and tires.

I can't necessarily give you the rundown on specs that will/won't fit and where the cutoff is between, but it looks like our setups are similar, so I can tell you what works with mine, which should work well with yours or at least give you a data point.

I have a 2.5" lift on my TJ and am running 31x10.5 on 15" rims with 3.75" backspacing and get no rubbing in any scenario. I'm currently running Kelly Edge ATs and I've been happy with them for the most part. They're a mild AT that does great on-road and fine off. When I need to replace, I'll be moving to either the BFG KO2, General Grabber or Toyo Open Country AT3 as these have a heaver duty sidewall than the Kelly's (3-ply vs. 2), which is important with all the sharp rocks we have here in the desert.

I've run KO2's or the older KOs on all my Jeeps and have been happy with them. I had the Cooper AT3's for awhile on one of my XJs and they were great at first, but after about half tread the wet traction was just awful. I did get around 40k out of them, but they were dry rotted at 4 years old. They might have improved since then, as this was 2018 or so.

+1 on the 15x8 wheels. I ran some 16's on my previous XJ and the tires were definitely more expensive for a similar size (31 vs. 245/75R16) and there weren't any load range C.

at the risk of asking a stupid question....I am looking at changing out my stock 30x9.5x15 tires on my Sahara to 31x 10.5 x 15 tires . Will this change any geometry with drive train (ie: driveline) or cause any other concerns (other than ride and noise) that i need to be aware of?

Given a 10.5" wide tires with stock fender flares is wider than the flare....how much slinging of mud, etc are you getting? My Jeep is about 85/15% Road Use/Off Road
