I'm not a fan of crome on a jeep, so are and some aren't. The only crome on my jeep is the headlight bezels and the trail rated badge. What's yalls recommendations on painting them a flat black or semi gloss? I know I'll have to scuff them up pretty good which is no problem. I'm not gonna use the cheapest rattle can I can buy.

Paint is all about prep. Scuff them up nicely and then paint them. It should hold up long enough.

They also sell them already black just incase you're lazy:

Lol yeah I'm not too lazy but I can't prep them and pint them for cheaper than that. I've got a can of rust oleum bed liner I did my back bumper with that I was impressed with I think I'm gonna try

I HATE chrome, but do like the chrome headlight bezels. My Jeep is also silver, so they don't stand out as much. Plasti-dip is also an option, and it should work great on the bezels. If you paint, I'd chose a satin black myself.

I've never used plastic dip before. Buy it at local auto parts store?

When I went through the States (I'm Canadian) from Niagra Falls back to Nova Scotia, I bought a bunch at Home Depot. That seemed to be the cheapest place. I imagine you can get it just about anywhere though.

Okay I'll check there I got to Home Depot about once a week or twice a week

I painted mine with a semi-gloss, just because I've always known flat to scratch very easily. Although, after two years they are beat to hell and need to be repainted anyway.

I could be wrong, but I think those Rugged Ridge ones I linked to are molded black plastic (not painted), and therefore you don't have to worry about them chipping at all.

Well the only reason I've brought this up is because I won some led head lights here locally and I don't think it will look good with the Crome plus I'm not a fan of it

Going back to this. What kind of primer for the plastic? I have a body matched base and clear coat and want to do it the right way. I know that Rustoleum makes a plastic primer but I wanted to know if there were any other good recommendations?

I'm flat black, I like the look better. Had in garage.

On my 2006 TJ, I have the bezels body matched with Stone White. Most folks here wouldn't spend the amount of money to have them sprayed professionally, and you could get close with solid prep and spray paint. I have too much OCD to go the spray paint route.

I vote for scuffing, cleaning, primer, and then spray it with some high quality spray paint...

I'd like to see them body matched. I've been thinking about doing this on mine.

I’m still lost on what the best primer for plastic is. I have professional quality kahki base and clear paints mixed and ready to go - I just want to make sure the surface is perfect before I spray expensive paint on them you know?

I painted mine. It always chipped off and I had to keep repainting. That was before the black plastic ones were a thing. If you want black, I would just buy new black ones.
