Anyone here done this swap? Any reason not to do it? Does the flip kit seal up good? Looks pretty straightforward. Might save a few bucks vs an Atlas.
l am looking at ways to get to a 4-1 tcase in my 4cyl 5 speed.

From all the threads and comments I've ever read it was always a hit and miss on if the seals would leak with the flip kit. STaK's use to make a replacement t-case that you could order for either a left or right hand drop but of course they are not in business anymore.

You will have to change your transmission out also since it is a 21 spline output shaft and the input on a D300 is a 23 spline. So you'll need to swap to a AX15 or NV3550 and to do either you either need to find a Dakota V-6 bellhousing or buy the adapter kit form Advance Adapters. And while your 4 cylinder isn't a power house the D300 isn't as strong as an Atlas.

Agreed. Wasn’t the problem with the early flip kits leaking from the shift rails? I think the new kits move the rails upon top?
Bohemath off-road looks to have new owners and new aluminum cases coming in June. I may have a line on a STaK case........maybe. Lol

Yes the leaking I'd read about was from the shifter rails because they are now at the bottom instead of the top. There also seemed to be some issues keeping it in gear.

I've read about issues with Bohemath taking funds and then taking 3 months before they ever send products. But if they are under new ownership hopefully this gets better. But if you start to add up the cost of a 4:1 gear set, flip kit or new housing, and then stronger output shafts front and rear you are almost in Atlas price range.

Yes. Agreed it does start to get close to any atlas. I do like that it is shorter thank stock or atlas cases. With the flip kits looking to remedy the leak issue and shifters that fit stock TJ location it is a viable option for sure. Just doesn’t seem to be much on it these days. With a 4cyl I don’t think strength will be an issue.

The price of D300's I think has also made people shy away. 20 years ago you could pick up a D300 for $100 no problem but I've seem them going for closer to $500 recently. When STaK's came out with that replacement case that really helped out and was a good way to build one for a drivers side drop. It's a shame someone else hasn't jumped on this and offered a new case.

Here is the colossal case.
http://behemothdrivetrain.com/Looks like some neat stuff coming from them. Not sure on price.

I thought I would share this link with you.

Might look at the Bronco Dana 20 as an alternative. Does not need flipped and you can use the NWF Blackbox I for the adapter and an AA output kit to keep your speedo.
That would pretty slick. That black box is a bit pricey plus the AA output would put me close to $2400.

If I was doing it again, I would do the same as before. Pop the motor up out of the mounts, add a doubler in front of the 231 made from another 231, scootch the motor forward until the rear driveshaft goes back in, put engine mounts on the frame right there.

You get a doubler, drive shafts are the same length as before, fan shroud from a 4.0 works perfectly, build in motor mount lift height as needed to eliminate a MML, really confuses folks that try to figure out what you did.

Not that you should but if a 3 speed were your end goal, use a 241. That would give you 1-1, 2.72-1, 4-1, and 10.88-1 and the overall weight added is less than 100 lbs.

It is but that setup would give you a three speed tcase in almost the same length as the 231 with an AA SYE.
Seem like vendors are selling the black box a bit cheaper. Hmmmn.
are all of the driver drop Dana 20s the same?

Any issues with manual trans shifter?

Dana 20s can be found cheap. Seem to be a strong box. So many options. Lol. A doubler would be nice with a 4cyl. Having 2/1 and 5/1 lows would be cool. Any reason not to use the 20/black box combo? Spending a bit more could be justified for a doubler.
